NFL Fact or Fiction: Packers Will Face Ravens in Super Bowl XLVI
It is never easy to pinpoint the possible Super Bowl participants, but the contenders usually present themselves during the season.
The Green Bay Packers and Baltimore Ravens are two such contenders.
Both teams are currently top of their divisions, and there is no reason why that cannot continue with playoff appearance, and possibly, a Super Bowl appearance.
Both teams bring different things to the table that can enable them a spot in the championship game.
So go ahead and click through to find out whether it is fact or fiction that the Green Bay Packers will face the Baltimore Ravens in Super Bowl XLVI .
Aaron Rodgers
1 of 11It is blatantly obvious that Aaron Rodgers will be a major factor in any success that the Packers will have.
Rodgers currently has a league-leading quarterback rating of 122.4 and also leads the league in touchdowns and completion percentage. He is in third in the league in passing yards, and he shows no signs of stopping down.
Rodgers is probably a front-runner for the MVP award at this point in the season, and if he continues on this form, another Super Bowl MVP is not out of the question.
Ray Lewis
2 of 11Ray Lewis is again leading a fearsome Ravens defense into each game of the season. He leads the Ravens in tackles—two of them sacks—and currently has one of the teams six interceptions, as well as two of the teams 10 forced fumbles.
As the Ravens defense continues to terrorize its opponents, Lewis will surely be leading the charge.
Green Bay Packers Passing Attack
3 of 11Aaron Rodgers may be the guy throwing the ball but his targets have to do a good job catching the ball.
Twelve different receivers have caught a pass from Rodgers so far this season. Greg Jennings leads the way both in receptions (35) and yards (530). None of the receivers have fumbled a ball yet, and there have been over 23 instances of catches over 20 yards.
The Packers receivers have been more than dependable so far, and if they—like Rodgerscan keep their form, this Packers team will be hard to stop.
Ravens Defense
4 of 11The Ravens defense has been a major force so far. They are in the top five in every major defensive category minus one. They have allowed the least amount of points in league (71) while holding opponents to 286.2 yards per game.
Interestingly enough, this Ravens defense has the least amount of tackles in the league leaders in sacks and lead the league in forced fumbles. The Ravens defense will undoubtedly put pressure on every quarterback they play against, and that will be a major factor in the teams trek to the Super Bowl.
Packers Team Chemistry
5 of 11The last Super Bowl was theirs, and the team had to contend with a slew of injuries, plus away games, the whole way to the Super Bowl. Team chemistry certainly had a lot to do with that.
Aaron Rodgers is as likeable a franchise quarterback as they come, and the whole Packers team is generally free of any drama. The inevitable undefeated talk will continue to rise if the wins add up, but it doesn't seem like that something like that would affect this team.
Ravens Playoff Experience
6 of 11The Ravens have been a constant playoff participant the last few years so they are quite experienced where that is concerned. If there would ever be a year to get over the hump, this would be the one.
The defense has been in top form as mentioned, and the offense will know the importance of not giving away the ball during important playoff games.
NFC Contenders
7 of 11The season has not reached its halfway point yet so teams like Philadelphia—who were supposed to be major contenders—still have time to at least get into the playoffs.
There are the usual suspects, such as the New Orleans Saints, New York Giants and Chicago Bears and also upstarts such as the San Francisco Giants and the Detroit Lions.
On any given day, it is possible for a team to lose in the NFL, but it will be tough for these teams to beat the Packers, especially if they continue their offensive output.
AFC Contenders
8 of 11While the Packers may have opponents that they may not fear but they do respect, Baltimore has been unable to get over the hump in its conference.
In the last two playoffs, the Ravens have been unable to get past reigning AFC champions the Pittsburgh Steelers. The New England Patriots have been very solid so far, while the San Diego Chargers and New York Jets will also be sure to have their say.
Green Bay Packers Possible Playoff Road
9 of 11If the Packers have home advantage throughout the playoffs—a very possible prospect at the moment—then, they will be able to make a very strong run.
They are currently the best team in the NFC, if not the league, and home advantage will definitely increase the chance of a Super Bowl appearance.
Baltimore Ravens Possible Playoff Road
10 of 11The Ravens have a lot more to contend with in the AFC so home advantage is key. If the Ravens come through with the top seed in the AFC and-home field advantage throughout-the road will be a little easier.
Unfortunately it will not be that much easier with dealing against a player like Tom Brady at home, but it should help.
Is It Fact or Fiction?
11 of 11Fiction: The Packers Will Face the Ravens in Super Bowl XLVI
Maybe this is a little of my Green Bay bias coming out, but I only see one of these two teams getting through to the Super Bowl.
It is hard enough to predict the likelihood of one Super Bowl participant, never mind two, but there is reason to believe things will be easier for the Packers.
The Ravens will have a harder road to travel during playoff time, though this is by no means an assertion that the Packers will have a cakewalk. The Ravens offense has been unable to get past a certain point in the last few playoffs, and that may come back to haunt them again.
The Packers are better than their NFC opponents, and the title is really theirs to lose. The offense should be hard for any team to stop, and there is still enough time in the regular season for the defensive game to improve.
In any case, the Packers have a better chance of reaching the Super Bowl than the Ravens.
