Week 6 Start 'Em, Sit 'Em: Top 3 Best RB Matchup Plays of the Late Games

John HickeyOct 16, 2011

Some of the best running backs in the league will be featured in the afternoon games this week, including Darren McFadden of Oakland and Adrian Peterson of Minnesota, who are both averaging about 100 yards per game.

The best fantasy player of the late session might well be Peterson, whose Vikings are matched up with Chicago. The Bears own the 28th-ranked offense in the 32-team NFL, giving up over 135 yards per game on the ground.

Chicago is one of seven teams to have allowed more than 670 yards on the ground to date this season, and fantasy owners should be salivating at the thought of Peterson, ranked second in the league with 498 yards, being able to attack at will.

One man to look out for this weekend will be Peyton Hillis of the Browns, despite the fact that he had just 10 carries last week. Cleveland coach Pat Shumur seems to be looking to revitalize his ground game, and Hillis is his pick to get the carries. What makes this play interesting is the fact that the Browns are playing the Raiders, who have the second-worst overall rushing defense in the game and are allowing 122.8 yards per game on the ground.

One player who might well surprise this week is Dallas’ Felix Jones, who only has 241 yards in the early season and who has missed time due to injury. Jones doesn’t have vaunted stats, but he seems to have the talent of many of the other top backs. What he needs to show now is that he isn’t a brittle as his recent history might suggest. And what better time to show it than against New England, who has the worst total defense in the game? He comes into this one with a shoulder injury that helped keep him out of last week’s game.
