NFL Predictions: Why the Dallas Cowboys Will Defeat the New England Patriots

Alex HallOct 14, 2011

Go ahead, count the Dallas Cowboys out against the New England Patriots this Sunday.

Defend it by saying the Patriots are on a 19-game home winning streak, or that they have the dynamic duo of Tom Brady and Bill Belichick.

Make your Tony "oh-no" Romo jokes and write off the Cowboys in Week 6, because that's exactly how this team likes it.

Not to turn this article into a history lesson, but many of the current Dallas players have been in this spot before. In 2006, they took on the then undefeated (and future Super Bowl Champion) Indianapolis Colts in a game many believed would be a cake walk for Manning and company.

The Cowboys would hand Indy their first loss of the season and pull of one of the biggest upsets in that year's regular season. Two years later, they would travel to New Orleans to play the then 14-0, future Super Bowl Champion Saints. Once again, Dallas played upset specialist and pulled off the unthinkable.

America's Team heads into Gillette Stadium with another streak to slay but luckily, all hands are expected to be on deck for the attempt. Cornerback Orlando Scandrick, kicker David Buehler and wide receiver Miles Austin are all expected to suit up for the Cowboys.

Dallas head coach Jason Garrett's team has also had two weeks to prepare for the mighty Pats' offense and, with Miles Austin back in the fold, he has to feel like his team's offense can match firepower with their opponents.

The 'Boys currently have the sixth best offense in the NFL while the Patriots hold the No. 1 spot, with the telling difference between these two teams being Dallas' fourth ranked defense compared to New England's 32nd.

If the Cowboys are able to go into Foxborough and end the Patriots' home winning streak, it will be due to Rob Ryan's defense slowing down their opposition enough for Romo and the offense to put up the necessary amount of points.

It's easier said then done, but injuries to Vince Wilfork and BenJarvus Green-Ellis hurt both sides of the ball for Belichick's team, so there are holes to be exploited for Ryan and Garrett.

Go ahead though, put your money on "Tom Terrific" and his genius head coach, point to the overly publicized faults of the Cowboys and go into Sunday expecting a Patriots victory. These Cowboys wouldn't have it any other way.
