NFL Picks Week 2: Which Teams Will Get Completely Blown Out?

Andrea HangstJun 7, 2018

Nothing is a foregone conclusion in the NFL. The mantra "Any Given Sunday" is generally proven true by at least one team in every week of the season. However, it's still easy to look at each week's games and let out a low whistle when you see a struggling team scheduled to meet a powerhouse.

Week 2 is no different. Below, I will detail the teams that I think are set to be blown out in their second contest of the 2011 season.

The Panthers are coming off a Week 1 loss against the Arizona Cardinals, in which rookie Panthers quarterback Cam Newton threw for 422 yards and two touchdowns, while rushing for one more.

To say that this week's contest against the Green Bay Packers will serve to be more difficult would be an understatement.

The Packers beat the New Orleans Saints in flashy fashion in Week 1 by putting up 41 points. I don't see this game being much different, except that it is highly unlikely that the Panthers can match the 34 points that the Saints offered up last Thursday.

I see Newton's success in Week 1 being mitigated by a dreadful follow-up outing this week against a far superior Packers team.

The Seattle Seahawks boast one of the worst offenses and defenses in the NFL, while the Steelers are coming off an embarrassing Week 1 loss at the hands of their division rivals, the Baltimore Ravens.

Combine the two, and the Seahawks appear to be headed for the bad-end of a blowout game.

The Steelers, the 2010 AFC Champions, are looking for redemption after being blown out last week. They will be angry and focused when they take the field for their home opener.

Seattle isn't the team that the Steelers saw in the 2005 Super Bowl—not by a long shot. What's more, the Steelers aren't the team they were in 2005.

Despite their Week 1 loss, Pittsburgh is better than ever on paper, and they are going to prove it in a big way against the Seahawks this Sunday.

Tennessee Titans (vs. Baltimore Ravens)

Rebuilding is an understatement for the struggling Tennessee Titans, who lost their quarterback and head coach in the offseason.

No thanks to running back Chris Johnson, the cornerstone of the Titans offense, Tennessee lost to the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 1 after putting up just 14 points.

Johnson will likely continue to struggle in Week 2 against a fearsome Ravens squad, who are coming off a surprising 35-7 blowout against the Pittsburgh Steelers in their home opener.

The only saving grace for the Titans is the burgeoning connection between quarterback Matt Hasselbeck and wide receiver Kenny Britt.

However, the pressure that the Ravens pass rush is going to bring upon Hasselbeck will limit his effectiveness. I see the Titans having just as much trouble gaining points through the air as they will on the ground.

At the same time, Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco has shown significant improvement thus far in 2011, while running back Ray Rice is going to be difficult—if not impossible—for the Titans defense to contain.

This is a clear formula for yet another dominant Ravens outing, and another Titans loss.
