10 Best Undefeated Fighters in MMA
So as you may or may not know, the poster to the left is no longer current.
Phil Davis was forced out of his bout with Rashad Evans due to a knee injury, and no replacement has been found yet as of 1:30 AM EST.
Now that we've gotten that out of the way, I recently did an article about the best one-loss fighters in MMA, in honor of Rashad Evans. I was now going to do the best undefeated fighters in honor of Phil Davis.
Well, Davis is out, but I'm still putting out the article.
So now, without further ado, here are the top 10 undefeated fighters in MMA.
Honorable Mentions
1 of 12Roger Gracie (4-0): current Strikeforce light heavyweight fighter. Four submission victories. Notable wins over Trevor Prangley, Kevin Randleman and Ron Waterman.
Herschel Walker (2-0): current Strikeforce heavyweight fighter. Two TKO victories.
Daniel Cormier (8-0): current Strikeforce heavyweight fighter. Three (T)KO victories, three submission victories. Notable win over Jeff Monson.
Shane del Rosario (11-0): current Strikeforce heavyweight fighter. Eight (T)KO victories, three submission victories. Notable win over Lavar Johnson.
Stanislav Nedkov (11-0): current UFC light heavyweight fighter. Five (T)KO victories, three submission victories. Notable wins over Kevin Randleman and Travis Wiuff.
Chad Mendes
2 of 12Chad Mendes (10-0) is a current UFC featherweight contender.
Mendes was a WEC fighter and went 3-0 with that organization. Then, in his UFC debut at UFC 126, he won a unanimous decision over Michihiro Omigawa.
Mendes has other notable victories over Javier Vasquez, Cub Swanson and Erik Koch.
Mendes' next fight will be at UFC 134 against Rani Yahya.
He'll be going into unfriendly territory. We'll see if his record stays intact.
Gray Maynard
3 of 12Gray Maynard (10-0-1 [1 NC]) is the current No. 1 contender to the lightweight championship.
Maynard is clearly one of the best lightweights in the world, and his resume proves it.
He has victories over Dennis Siver, Jim Miller, Nate Diaz, Kenny Florian, Roger Huerta and the champion himself, Frankie Edgar.
Maynard's last fight was for the lightweight title against Edgar, and it ended in a draw. Maynard nearly finished Edgar in the first round, but he proved unable and didn't get another opportunity for the rest of the fight.
Maynard was recently cleared to start training again, and he hopes to return and finish the trilogy with Frankie Edgar as early as UFC 136.
Edson Barboza
4 of 12Edson Barboza (8-0) is one of the brightest young prospects in the stacked UFC lightweight division.
Barboza is 2-0 so far in the UFC. His debut at UFC 123 saw him win via TKO due to leg kicks in the third round.
In his second fight, he won fight of the night for his unanimous decision victory over Anthony Njokuani. It was a great fight.
Barboza will now get to fight at home when he takes on Ross Pearson at UFC 134.
Ben Askren
5 of 12Ben Askren (8-0) is the current Bellator welterweight champion.
Askren made his MMA debut about two-and-a-half years ago and has not looked back since.
He won three fights on the regional circuit, and then, he joined the Bellator Season 2 welterweight tournament.
Askren flew through the tournament and won it. He then fought Lyman Good (the Season 1 champion) and he took the welterweight strap from him.
He has had a non-title bout since then, which he also clearly won and is now going to fight Jay Hieron at a date to be announced.
Tyron Woodley
6 of 12Tyron Woodley (8-0) is a current Strikeforce welterweight contender.
Woodley has been with Strikeforce for the majority of his career, fighting only twice on the regional circuit before being signed.
Woodley is pegged by many as a future contender, and he very well may be.
His last fight was a unanimous decision victory over Tarec Saffiedine, and after the fight, he wore a shirt reading "I Got Next," in reference to the Strikeforce welterweight title.
Well, with Nick Diaz vacating the title, his fight with Paul Daley on July 30th may very well be for it.
Phil Davis
7 of 12Phil Davis (9-0) is a current UFC light heavyweight contender and a physical freak.
Davis is a bright young prospect in the UFC, and many see him as a future threat to the title currently held by Jon Jones.
Davis had the biggest win of his career in his last fight, when he defeated Antonio Rogerio Nogueira by unanimous decision at UFC Fight Night: Seattle.
Davis was due to get a huge step up in competition, and the biggest test of his young career, when he headlined UFC 133 against Rashad Evans, but a knee injury forced him to pull out, and no replacement has been found yet.
Cain Velasquez
8 of 12Cain Velasquez (9-0) is the current UFC heavyweight champion, and the only currently undefeated UFC champion.
Velasquez absolutely decimated everyone on his way to the heavyweight championship.
Velasquez is 7-0 in the UFC with six (T)KO's, including Jake O'Brien, Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira and Brock Lesnar. Cheick Kongo is the only one to make it to a decision (and the third round) with Velasquez.
Velasquez has been out of action due to a torn rotator cuff since winning the title, but he is now looking to return to defend his title against Junior dos Santos at UFC 137.
Cole Konrad
9 of 12Cole Konrad (7-0) is the current Bellator heavyweight champion.
Konrad had two fights before joining the Bellator Season 3 heavyweight tournament, and he hasn't looked back.
Konrad won his first two fights in the tournament by unanimous decision, and then, he won his third fight by keylock in the first round and won the inaugural championship in the process.
His next fight will be a non-title bout against Paul Buentello at Bellator 48 on August 20th.
Travis Browne
10 of 12Travis Browne (11-0-1) is an upcoming heavyweight prospect in the UFC.
Browne has had three fights in the UFC and has gone 2-0-1 since his debut, with wins over Stefan Struve and TUF 10Â vet, James McSweeney.
The lone draw was against Cheick Kongo at UFC 120, as Kongo was deducted a point for grabbing Browne's shorts.
In Browne's last fight, he scored a highlight reel knockout over Stefan "The Skyscraper" Struve. Struve went for a kick, and Browne laid him out with a superman punch.
Browne's next fight is to be against Rob Broughton at UFC 135.
Matt Mitrione
11 of 12Matt Mitrione (5-0) is a heavyweight prospect in the UFC, and a competitor on Season 10 of The Ultimate Fighter.
Mitrione has had all five of his professional fights inside the UFC octagon, and has four (T)KO's and one decision.
In his debut, he knocked out Marcus "The Darkness" Jones, 10 seconds into the second round.
Since then, he has beaten Kimbo Slice by second-round TKO, Joey Beltran by unanimous decision, Tim Hague by first-round TKO and Christian Morecraft by second-round KO.
