BCS Fiesta Bowl Winner Boise State: Who Watch's the Bronco Games and Why
The question used to be: Would the Boise State Bronco fans travel sufficiently for the BCS committee to allow the Bronco team entry into one of the four BCS Bowls? It would seem when the committee placed (the non automatic qualifier) Boise State in the 2010 Fiesta Bowl opposite this seasons non-AQ BCS buster, Texas Christian (TCU), that the question was undoubtedly answered.
It was apparent the blue and orange (mostly orange) held a major fan advantage over the purple clad TCU fans. After the game, and when the Horned Frogs were allowed a press interview, Andy Dalton (TCU quarterback) stated that the noise difference was deafening. He thought the Bronco fans were possibly 60/40 or greater, and that the Bronco noise level was responsible for TCU’s procedure calls and TCU’s not preparing silent snap counts to combat the possibility of the very vocal Boise fans.
There is no doubt that the Boise State Broncos are a very well known team and their fans are spread across the United States.
Another reason the Bronco's might have an advantage over other teams traveling to Arizona, the home of the Fiesta Bowl, could be the majority of Broncos recruits are from the west coast: Washington, Oregon, California (mostly California), Idaho, Arizona, and Texas.
Broncos' coach Petersen said jokingly in lieu of Boise State fans potentially traveling to Miami for a Bowl "that would really be testing the Bronco Nation." However, to answer that possibility, the Virginia Tech game that is to be played on Oct. 2, 2010 in Washington D.C. during the Bronco regular season, is that some locals are already planning their vacations for the year visiting the nations' capital.
Other than player’s family and friends who along with Boise-ite’s traveling to games is the question, how do people become Boise State oriented if they have never seen the team play, or even heard of them?
One way is for fans to spread the word across the United States. For example, in Boise one Bronco fan sells Lilly’s on-line. She, Nannanusa (her auction user ID), sells her wares on two major auctions—Lilly Auction and eBay—and lets her customers know that she is a Broncos fan.
When a customer, family member, or friend responds she follows up by sending the teams game-time information. For example, one customer from North Carolina (Terry) has been watching Bronco games available on cable all year and the BCS Fiesta Bowl.
Terry enjoyed the Broncos' defense in the Fiesta saying, “I missed the first two minutes of the game, but watched the rest. When I turned it on...they were talking about the Broncos being the highest rated offence in the country and TCU being the top ranked defense. The first play I saw was the interception ranback for a TD. Then the Boise State defensive domination of TCU. What a fun team to watch!”
Nan’s family member from Tacoma Washington watches as well. Also her former childhood neighbor, Don from South Dakota who now resides in Las Vegas, said “It was a good game. Should put you in at least second place in the final polls.”
That coming from someone who probably watches hoping the Broncos will lose. No doubt Don is still suffering from the Oklahoma Sooner loss from Boise States' only other BCS invite.
It doesn’t matter how or why people watch Bronco football, it is just exciting knowing that they will, even from far away. One of Nan’s customers lives in Latvia. She is not sure if the Bronco’s are seen their but if they are Nan is partly responsible and that’s another story—Go Broncos!
