Yankees Have 4 Players with 10 or More Home Runs by 40th Game for 1st Time Ever

Rob GoldbergMay 13, 2018

The New York Yankees continue to showcase the depth of their lineup this season, already accomplishing something no team has ever done in franchise history.

According to Coley Harvey of ESPN.com, the Yankees have never had four players with at least 10 home runs by the 50-game mark of the season. This year, four players have accomplished the feat by the 40th game.

Giancarlo Stanton hit his 10th home run of 2018 on Sunday, joining Aaron Judge, Didi Gregorius and Gary Sanchez in the double-digit club.

"Look, we have a really good lineup," manager Aaron Boone said. "I just love the way they go about it."

The last team to have four players with 10 home runs by Game No. 40 was the 2003 Texas Rangers, which featured Rafael Palmeiro, Carl Everett, Juan Gonzalez and Alex Rodriguez. Only two players on that team, Rodriguez and Palmeiro, topped 30 home runs for a squad that finished 71-91.

New York should be able to maintain its pace with Stanton and Judge each coming off 50-home-run seasons. Gregorius is the biggest surprise of the quartet, but even he hit 25 home runs in 2017.

This has all added up to the top offense in the majors, which leads all teams with 231 runs after Sunday's 6-2 win over the Oakland Athletics.

The Red Sox—currently tied with the Yankees for the best record in baseball at 28-12—have the second-most runs with 218.

With that kind of offensive talent, you can expect New York to be among the top run-producers all year long.
