Shane Larkin Out for 'Foreseeable Future' with Shoulder Injury, Is 'Very Sore'

Boston Celtics head coach Brad Stevens said Wednesday that point guard Shane Larkin will be sidelined for the "foreseeable future" with a sprained left shoulder.

Stevens told reporters Larkin is "very, very sore" after getting injured in Boston's Game 4 loss to the Philadelphia 76ers on Monday night.

"I don't anticipate him back anytime soon," Stevens said.

The Celtics' depth will continue to get tested in their second-round series with the Sixers and potentially beyond. They lead 3-1 with Game 5 scheduled for Wednesday night at TD Garden.

Boston has played virtually the entire season without small forward Gordon Hayward, who suffered a significant leg injury in his team debut. Point guard Kyrie Irving is out for the rest of the campaign after undergoing knee surgery last month.

Nevertheless, the Celtics posted the second-best record in the Eastern Conference at 55-27 and are one win away from matching up with the Cleveland Cavaliers in the conference finals.

"We're just going to have other guys step up. We're used to that," Stevens said. "At the end of the day, that is what it is. [Larkin has] played really well in this series. And he's done a lot of great things for us all year and through the playoffs."

The absence of the reserve point guard will put even more pressure on Terry Rozier, who entered the starting lineup in place of Irving, to lead the offense. It's also going to create more opportunities for Marcus Smart as part of the team's backcourt rotation.

Stevens didn't provide a timetable for Larkin's return but said he didn't think surgery would be necessary.
