Alvin Gentry: Rajon Rondo Didn't Play 2nd Half vs. Warriors Due to Groin Injury
New Orleans Pelicans point guard Rajon Rondo left Tuesday's playoff game against the Golden State Warriors after suffering a groin injury.
According to Marc J. Spears of ESPN's The Undefeated, Pelicans head coach Alvin Gentry said the setback sidelined Rondo for the second half of his team's 113-104 loss at Oracle Arena. The loss ended New Orleans' season, as the Warriors clinched their spot in the Western Conference Finals.
Rondo missed time near the end of March because of a right wrist sprain. He was also sidelined for the first 13 games of the season following core muscle surgery.
In his first season in New Orleans, he helped his team reach the second round of the playoffs by averaging 8.3 points, 8.2 assists, 4.0 rebounds and 1.1 steals per game.
While the four-time All-Star may not be in his prime anymore, he can still facilitate on offense and be an impact player on defense. Rondo's value could not be denied last postseason. He helped the Chicago Bulls take a 2-0 series lead over the top-seed Boston Celtics in the first round by averaging 11.5 points, 10.0 assists, 8.5 rebounds and 3.5 steals. However, a thumb injury forced him out of action, and the Bulls lost the next four games without their point guard to watch their season come to a disappointing end.
He was once again forced to watch his team's postseason series come to an end from the sidelines because of an injury.
