Michael Bennett Assaulted Paraplegic Woman, Told Police 'F--k Off,' Police Say
The Houston Police Department has issued a statement with details about the indictment for Philadelphia Eagles defensive end Michael Bennett.
Per Mark Berman of Fox 26, Houston police chief Art Acevedo said Bennett injured an elderly woman working security at NRG Stadium during Super Bowl LI in 2017:
The Houston Police Department also cited medical records showing that Bennett's alleged assault of the person caused her to sprain her shoulder, and he told the responding officers to "f--k off," per USA Today's Liz Matthews.
KHOU.com reported a grand jury in Harris County, Texas indicted Bennett Friday on a felony charge of injury of the elderly related to his trying to force his way onto the field following the New England Patriots' 34-28 win over the Atlanta Falcons in the Super Bowl.
KHOU.com's report notes NRG security told Bennett to use a different entrance to get on the field, but he "pushed through" the group that included the 66-year-old woman who was injured.
If convicted, Bennett faces up to 10 years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
The 32-year-old Bennett was a member of the Seattle Seahawks at the time of the incident. His brother, tight end Martellus Bennett, was playing for the Patriots in the game.
The Seahawks traded Bennett to the Eagles on March 14. In addition to being indicted, he could be subject to suspension by the NFL as part of the personal conduct policy.
