DeAndre Jordan Trade Rumors: Rockets Won't Deal Clint Capela to Land Clippers C
Trade talks between the Los Angeles Clippers and Houston Rockets concerning L.A. center DeAndre Jordan reportedly failed to advance because the Rockets didn't want to move big man Clint Capela.
On Tuesday, Ian Begley of ESPN.com reported the discussions "went nowhere" once Capela entered the conversation.
Jordan is one of the top names being mentioned ahead of the NBA's Feb. 8 trade deadline.
Marc Stein of the New York Times noted Monday the Cleveland Cavaliers, Milwaukee Bucks and Portland Trail Blazers are among the teams that have shown interest in the veteran post player, but the Clippers haven't received an offer they consider "seriously tempting."
Jordan, 29, is averaging 11.8 points, 14.9 rebounds and 1.0 blocks while shooting 66.1 percent from the field across 41 appearances this season. He's also a Houston native.
Capela, 23, is averaging 14.5 points, 10.7 rebounds and 1.7 blocks on 66.4 percent shooting. It's his most complete season after making notable strides across his first three NBA campaigns.
It's easy to see why the Rockets turned down the request for the rising Swiss star. Not only would the upgrade in the post be minimal—if there would be one at all—but he also carries a reasonable $5.8 million cap hit for next season before restricted free agency, per Spotrac.
Meanwhile, the fact L.A. asked for Capela shows the asking price for Jordan is sky-high. The question is whether it will decrease before the deadline.
