Report: Ezekiel Elliott Spent NFL Suspension in 'Relative Isolation'

Joseph ZuckerDec 18, 2017

While serving his six-game suspension, Dallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott apparently attempted to stay as far away from his team as possible.

NFL Network's Jane Slater reported Monday that Elliott didn't want to present a distraction to the Cowboys during his suspension and remained in "relative isolation" at a resort a half-hour from Cabo San Lucas, Mexico:

While Elliott may have been staying at a luxury resort, his time in Mexico was far from a vacation. NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported Sunday the 2016 All-Pro underwent "intense training," which was a part of a documentary he filmed during the suspension.

During the NBC broadcast of the Cowboys' 20-17 win over the Oakland Raiders on Sunday night, NBC Sports' Michele Tafoya shared photos of Elliott during his workouts in Mexico, per SNF on NBC:

Hall of Fame running back Eric Dickerson met with Elliott at the resort and said during an interview on The Herd with Colin Cowherd he and Elliott "talked about a little of everything":

The fact Elliott used his suspension to get in even better shape will be great news for the Cowboys, who went 3-3 while he was out of action.

With two games left in the regular season, Dallas is a half-game behind the Atlanta Falcons for the final NFC wild-card spot. The Detroit Lions and Seattle Seahawks, who both have the same record as Dallas (8-6), also own the tiebreaker against the Cowboys, so Dallas sits ninth in the conference standings.

Through his first eight games, Elliott ran for 783 yards and seven touchdowns, with 506 of those yards coming in his last four appearances.

If Elliott is back to his Pro Bowl self against the Seahawks in Week 16 and the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 17, then Dallas just may be able to sneak into the playoffs.
