Xander Bogaerts' Ankle Injury Diagnosed as Fractured Ankle; Out 10-14 Days
Boston Red Sox shortstop Xander Bogaerts was placed on the 10-day disabled list, the team announced Monday.
The team confirmed Bogaerts is recovering from "a small crack in the talus bone in his left ankle" but won't need to undergo surgery.
A Silver Slugger winner in 2015 and 2016, Bogaerts took a step backward in 2017. His .273 batting average and .403 slugging percentage were down 21 and 43 points, respectively, and his home runs fell from 21 to 10.

Yankees Call Up 6'7" Prospect 📈
According to FanGraphs, Bogaerts was still eighth among qualified shortstops in WAR (3.3), so he remained an effective presence in Boston's lineup. And he's still relatively young (25) despite this being his sixth season in MLB.
The Red Sox filled the only real hole in their offense when they signed J.D. Martinez this offseason, and they'll have the benefit of Rafael Devers for a full season after he started 2017 in the minors.
Boston's collective power will help the team get by with Bogaerts out of action.
