Jack Conlon Reportedly Agrees to Giants Contract After Orioles Fail to Sign RHP
The San Francisco Giants signed Jack Conlon, the previously unsigned Baltimore Orioles fourth-round pick, according to Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports.
As Hudson Belinsky of Baseball America explained, Conlon became a free agent when he failed his physical and the Orioles refused to make him an offer. The team would have needed to provide an offer of at least 40 percent of the slot value to receive a compensatory selection.
As Jeff Sullivan of FanGraphs discussed last year, the Orioles have a "reputation for having an almost impossibly rigorous physical."

This could be a reason the Giants see Conlon as a better option than Baltimore did.
The Texas high school pitcher is a big right-hander at 6'4", 220 pounds. MLB.com listed him before the draft as the No. 175 overall player in the class, noting he has a mid-90s fastball and an above-average slider.
While he had the opportunity to fill his commitment to Texas A&M instead of signing with the Orioles, the option of entering free agency allowed him to choose any team in the league. He took the opportunity to play professionally and will hope to move quickly through the minors with San Francisco.
