Knicks Rumors: Carmelo Anthony Still on Trade Block After Tim Hardaway Jr. Deal
The New York Knicks are expected to pursue a trade of Carmelo Anthony more seriously after the Atlanta Hawks opted not to match the team's four-year, $71 million offer sheet for restricted free agent Tim Hardaway Jr.
According to ESPN.com's Adrian Wojnarowski, the signing "is expected to trigger a renewed willingness to work with the Houston Rockets on trade scenarios to unload Anthony."
Wojnarowski added the Knicks "do not imagine a scenario where Hardaway is sharing the floor with Anthony to start the season."
If the Knicks can come to terms with the Rockets or another team on a deal for Anthony, the 10-time All-Star will have to waive his no-trade clause to finalize the agreement.
On Monday, Wojnarowski reported Anthony "is open" to waiving his no-trade clause to join either the Rockets or Cleveland Cavaliers.
Anthony, 33, is due $26.2 million next season and has a 15 percent trade kicker in his contract. His $27.9 million salary for the 2018-19 season also includes an early termination option.
