Mike Scott Reportedly Finalizing 1-Year, 1.7 Million Contract with Wizards
The Washington Wizards and free-agent forward Mike Scott are reportedly finalizing an agreement Tuesday on a veteran's minimum-contract deal.
Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN first reported the expected signing, while USA Today's Jeff Zillgitt reported the deal is worth $1.7 million for one year.
Scott averaged 2.5 points and 2.1 rebounds while shooting just 28.8 percent from the field across 18 games with the Atlanta Hawks last season. The Hawks traded him to the Phoenix Suns in late February, but he never made an appearance for organization before getting waived.
The 28-year-old University of Virginia product has played a limited role since the Hawks selected him in the second round of the 2012 NBA draft at No. 43 overall. He's made seven starts in 281 career games and played 15.4 minutes per contest.
In May, a Georgia Superior Court judge suppressed all evidence and moved to dismiss a felony drug charge brought against the Virginia native related to a 2015 traffic stop, per Wojnarowski. Judge Currie Mingledorff II made the ruling based on "evidence that suggests a pattern of racial profiling."
"In my 35 years of practicing law, this could be the worst case of racial profiling I have ever seen," Steve Weiner, Scott's attorney, said. "Hopefully this will lead to Banks County, Georgia, re-evaluating their policies."
Scott will take on a familiar depth role with the Wizards.
He'll likely battle Ian Mahinmi and Jason Smith for playing time behind Washington's starting frontcourt tandem of Markieff Morris and Marcin Gortat.
