Suns Reportedly Offer Alan Williams 4-Year Contract
The Phoenix Suns have reportedly offered power forward Alan Williams a four-year contract, according to John Gambadoro of Arizona Sports 98.7.
Gambadoro added that the contract would pay Williams in the $5-6 million range per year.
The possible signing comes a day after Ian Begley of ESPN.com reported the New York Knicks had reached out to Williams.
Williams, 24, appeared in 47 games for the Suns off the bench last season, averaging 7.4 points and 6.2 rebounds in 15.1 minutes per contest. His efficiency made him one of the few pleasant surprises for the Suns last season.
As Doug Haller of the Arizona Republic noted, Williams "spent most of the first half on the bench, gaining attention for his cheering and support. He not only became a fan favorite, but also a positive locker-room presence. Once management shut down key players after the All-Star break, Williams got his chance on the court. He didn't disappoint."
That made Williams, a restricted free agent, an intriguing player this offseason.
Should the Suns' deal go through, Williams will settle into a backup big-man role, with young players Marquese Chriss and Dragan Bender expected to be the team's future starters at the 4 and 5, respectively.
Williams' potential signing puts Alex Len's future in doubt, as veteran center Tyson Chandler is signed through the 2018-19 season.
