Chris Paul, Agents Reportedly Meet with Clippers to Discuss PG's Future
Chris Paul is expected to opt out of his contract and become a free agent this offseason, and it looks like his time with the Los Angeles Clippers might not be over.
According to Adrian Wojnarowski of The Vertical, the point guard and his agents met with Clippers personnel Tuesday. They plan to meet again before he makes a decision.
On Friday, Brad Turner of the Los Angeles Times reported Paul's intentions to opt out of the final year of his contract, allowing him to join any team.
As Broderick Turner of the Los Angeles Times noted, the 32-year-old could make up to $205 million over five years if he re-signs with the Clippers compared to a four-year, $152 million deal elsewhere. However, the Houston Rockets and Denver Nuggets are already considered possible landing spots for the veteran.
There is reportedly mutual interest from the Rockets, per Marc Stein of ESPN.
Paul saw his numbers decline slightly this past season, missing the All-Star Game for the first time in 10 years, although he still averaged 18.1 points and 9.2 assists per game. The Clippers lost to the Utah Jazz in the first round of the 2017 playoffs, but the guard did everything he could while averaging 25.3 points in seven games.
Adding in his seventh selection to the All-Defense first team, it's clear Paul will be a top commodity on the open market this summer.
