Martin Perez Placed on DL After Suffering Thumb Injury in Hotel Door Accident
Texas Rangers starting pitcher Martin Perez was placed on the 10-day disabled list Saturday after he injured his thumb in an accident involving the door of his hotel room.
Jeff Wilson of the Star-Telegram reported the roster move, as outfielder Drew Robinson was recalled to fill the void on the 25-man roster. Perez tore the nail off his right thumb and fractured the tip of the bone Thursday night, per ESPN.com.
The 26-year-old left-hander was taken to a hospital after the team arrived in New York to face the Yankees this weekend, per ESPN.com, and Perez said he would make his next start, according to Wilson.

"If I can perform my job and protect it, I'm going to start," Perez said. "I'm going to open a hole in my glove. I don't know how. Accidents, man, they happen."
The Venezuela native has struggled during the first half of the 2017 season. He owns a 4.70 ERA and 1.65 WHIP with 61 strikeouts and 32 walks in 82.1 innings across 15 starts.
Andrew Cashner, who's eligible to come off the disabled list next week after dealing with an oblique strain, could take the empty spot in the rotation. Cole Hamels is also close to returning from the same injury, so reinforcements are on the way for the Texas staff.
No timetable was provided for Perez's return.
