Danny Green Trade Reportedly Being Considered by Spurs
The San Antonio Spurs are reportedly toying with the idea of dealing Danny Green.
Citing league sources, the San Antonio Express-News' Jabari Young reported Wednesday the Spurs are "open" to trading the veteran shooting guard. However, he cautioned a deal is not yet close.
Green is due $10 million next season and owns a player option worth the same amount for the 2018-19 campaign.
While that's an affordable price for the Spurs, dealing Green before the start of free agency July 1 would give them more financial flexibility as they pursue roster upgrades on the open market.
Namely, the Spurs could be interested in a union with point guard Chris Paul—who is expected to give the defending Southwest Division champions "serious consideration in free agency," according to ESPN.com's Marc Stein.
The Spurs are also primed to open more financial wiggle room by bringing back Pau Gasol at a discounted rate after he declined his $16.2 million player option for next season, per The Vertical's Adrian Wojnarowski.
Green, who will turn 30 on Thursday, averaged 7.3 points, 3.3 rebounds and 1.0 steals per game on 39.2 percent shooting from the field and 37.9 percent shooting from three last season.
