Dan Gilbert to Discuss Contract With David Griffin After Finals Loss
Following the Cleveland Cavaliers' NBA Finals loss to the Golden State Warriors on Monday, owner Dan Gilbert is set to discuss a potential new contract with general manager David Griffin.
According to Joe Vardon of Cleveland.com, Gilbert said Tuesday he will meet with Griffin "in the next few days" to determine if he will return for the 2017-18 season and beyond.
Griffin's contract expires June 30.
Gilbert said he and Griffin hadn't had contract negotiations in recent days and didn't indicate his level of confidence in Griffin's potential return.
The Orlando Magic, Atlanta Hawks and Milwaukee Bucks have reportedly all expressed interest in landing Griffin, per Vardon, but both Orlando and Atlanta were denied requests for interviews.
Griffin joined the Cavs in 2010 as their vice president of basketball operations, and he has been the GM since 2014.
With Griffin in the front office, Cleveland has lured LeBron James back home, traded for Kevin Love and assembled one of the NBA's most dangerous rosters.
