John Salley Says There's 'No Way' Warriors Would Beat Michael Jordan, 1996 Bulls
In the continued debate of whether the 2016-17 Golden State Warriors could defeat the 1995-96 Chicago Bulls, John Salley answered with an emphatic "no" Thursday.
During an interview with TMZ Sports, Salley said, "No way...Are you kidding me?" when asked about the possibility of the Dubs coming out on top.
Per ESPN.com's Ben Fawkes, five of the six Las Vegas sportsbooks contacted installed the 2016-17 Warriors as favorites over the 1995-96 Bulls with lines ranging from -2 to -8.
Salley was a bench contributor for the 1995-96 Bulls team that won 72 games during the regular season and went on to win the NBA championship by going 15-3 in the playoffs.
In addition to mentioning the fact that the Bulls could have hand-checked the Warriors in their day, Salley expressed his belief that Chicago could have smothered two-time MVP Stephen Curry defensively: "He wouldn't be allowed to dribble. ... We would've been all over that guy. No way."
Golden State went 67-15 during the regular season, which was six less wins than their record-setting performance last season, but they added Kevin Durant to the mix and are one win away from completing a perfect 16-0 postseason.
While the numbers may point toward a Golden State team that made over 400 more three-pointers than the 1995-96 Bulls during the regular season, Salley put his faith in the combination of Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen, which won six titles together.
