Klay Thompson Says Warriors Want to Win NBA Championship in Cleveland
Golden State Warriors guard Klay Thompson has no interest in playing a Game 5 in the NBA Finals.
"We don't want to go back to the Bay and win," he said Wednesday following his team's 118-113 victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers in Game 3 at Quicken Loans Arena, per Baxter Holmes of ESPN. "We want to finish it here."
Thompson also recognized Kevin Durant's clutch ability after No. 35 scored seven of his team's final 11 points, including a monumental go-ahead three in the final minute, per Michael Grange of Rogers Sportsnet: "We know in that situation to get that man the rock."
Thompson scored 30 points of his own but addressed his defense on Kyrie Irving down the stretch, per Rachel Nichols of ESPN: "I did a good job not falling for any of his moves, because he's real shift. And he missed the shot."
Even though Irving thrived during Game 3 with 38 points and a number of dazzling moves in the second half, Thompson contained him with the game on the line.
It was fitting the versatile Thompson impacted the game on defense at the end considering he exploded on the offensive side at the start. He torched the Cavaliers for 16 points and four three-pointers in the first quarter alone and picked up where he left off in Game 2, going 11-of-18 from the field.
His four threes set the tone as the Warriors drilled nine from deep in the first on the way to an 118-point performance.
Durant played the role of hero in the final minute for Golden State, which Thompson recognized, but it wouldn't have won without the contributions of No. 11.
