Klay Thompson Says He Has 'Another Level to Get To' in NBA Finals
Golden State Warriors star Klay Thompson wasn't satisfied with scoring 22 points and grabbing seven rebounds in his team's 132-113 victory in Game 2 of the 2017 NBA Finals over the Cleveland Cavaliers on Sunday.
Speaking with NBA TV after the game, Thompson said he's "got another level to get to" as the series moves to Cleveland:
Thompson didn't have a great night in the Warriors' 113-91 Game 1 victory. He shot 3-of-16 from the field, including 0-of-5 from the perimeter en route to a six-point performance.
The beauty of the Warriors' depth is that they can have a poor showing from Thompson and hardly miss a beat. Stephen Curry and Kevin Durant combined for 66 points in Game 1, while Draymond Green nearly had a double-double (nine points, 11 rebounds).
That's not to say Thompson didn't help Golden State cruise to victory in the opening game of the Finals. NBA on ESPN highlighted his defensive contributions:
The fact that Thompson looked more like his regular self in Game 2 on offense—he finished 8-of-12 from the floor and 4-of-7 from three-point range—isn't a great sign for the Cavaliers moving forward.
Cleveland overcame a 3-1 series deficit in last year's Finals, but the addition of Durant has seemingly built too big a gulf between the two teams for the Cavs to repeat as NBA champions.
