Carmelo Anthony Says Knicks 'Might' Trade Him
Following Wednesday's season-closing 114-113 win over the Philadelphia 76ers, New York Knicks star Carmelo Anthony acknowledged the possibility of getting traded.
"They might, they might," Melo said when asked about whether the Knicks would deal him, according to ESPN.com's Ian Begley.
Anthony, 32, expressed a desire to remain with the Knicks if they are committed to winning but said he isn't sure what the organization intends to do.
Per Begley, Melo said it was "hard to trust" team president Phil Jackson:
"If somebody was talking bad about you indirectly at your job, what would you do? You would feel a certain way. You would want that person to come straightforward with you. And I feel the same way. I'm always open. I'm a very honest person. I know the business and I know the game and I know how it works. So if it's something that you want to get across, a message that you want to get across, I've always been open.
"
The 10-time All-Star enjoyed another productive campaign, averaging 22.4 points, 5.9 rebounds and 2.9 assists. Despite that and big-name offseason acquisitions such as Derrick Rose and Joakim Noah, the Knicks struggled to a 31-51 record and finished 12th in the Eastern Conference.
New York has now gone four straight seasons without making the playoffs.
Anthony has two years remaining on his contract but could become a free agent as early as 2018 due to an early-termination clause. He will make $26,243,760 in base salary next season and $27,928,140 in 2018-19.
Anthony also has a no-trade clause, which could limit the Knicks' options.
