Cavaliers Break NBA Single-Game 3-Point Record vs. Hawks

Alec NathanMar 3, 2017

The Cleveland Cavaliers set the NBA regular-season record for threes made in a single game Friday night against the Atlanta Hawks when Kyle Korver drained a triple with 1:16 remaining in a 135-100 win at Philips Arena.

The Cavaliers' official Twitter account relayed video of the historic bucket:

The Houston Rockets and Denver Nuggets each owned a share of the old record after they drained 24 treys apiece in games earlier this season.

The defending champions nearly coughed up a 25-point lead as the Hawks surged down the stretch, but Korver's clutch bucket helped keep his former team at bay.

As far as Cleveland's record-setting performance was concerned, LeBron James paced all Cavaliers scorers with a team-high six threes to buoy a line that consisted of 38 points, 13 boards and eight assists. For a guy who entered the night averaging 1.7 threes per game, that wasn't too shabby.

However, the real story was balance.

The Cavaliers featured six different players who made at least three shots from beyond the arc, with Kyrie Irving leading that group to the tune of a game-high 43 points (14-of-21 shooting, 5-of-8 from three).

Korver (nine points, 3-of-7 from three), Deron Williams (nine points, 3-of-4 from three) and Channing Frye (11 points, 3-of-6 from three) were also featured in that illustrious group as the Cavaliers shot 54.3 percent from three as a team.

Although the Cavs surrendered a whopping 42 points in the fourth quarter and flirted with disaster on several occasions, they withstood Atlanta's furious comeback attempt and bounced back from Wednesday's loss to the Boston Celtics, improving to 42-18 on the season.

Now 3-2 since the All-Star break, the Cavaliers will attempt to string together back-to-back wins when they travel to South Beach for a showdown with the Miami Heat Saturday night at American Airlines Arena.
