Danilo Gallinari Trade Rumors: Celtics Reportedly Interested in Nuggets SF
The Boston Celtics figure to be one of the most active shoppers before the NBA trade deadline Thursday, with Danilo Gallinari of the Denver Nuggets reportedly one player on their radar.
ESPN's Brian Windhorst reported on SportsCenter the Celtics have talked about adding Gallinari, and the Nuggets want a first-round pick in return (h/t Harrison Wind of BSNDenver.com).
Gallinari has seemingly been on the trade block since he signed a two-year extension with the Nuggets in 2015. It's been a difficult task for the Nuggets to find the value they want for the 28-year-old because he's constantly hurt.
Over the previous three seasons, Gallinari missed 134 games. He's missed 12 games this season, including the last eight because of a strained groin.
The Celtics may look to Gallinari as a potential backup plan at the deadline. Adrian Wojnarowski of The Vertical linked Boston to Indiana Pacers All-Star Paul George, though there's no indication a deal will be worked out before the 3 p.m. ET cutoff.
K.C. Johnson of the Chicago Tribune reported the Chicago Bulls are telling teams they "have no plans to trade" Jimmy Butler.
Gallinari isn't at the level of George or Butler, but when healthy, he's been a solid producer for the Nuggets this season with 17.2 points and 4.9 rebounds per game.
The Celtics need to add more offense behind Isaiah Thomas if they want to pose a serious threat to the Cleveland Cavaliers in the Eastern Conference, so exploring every option before the deadline is smart business for the team.
