Warriors Lose Home Winning Streak at Record-Setting 54 Games

Bleacher Report MilestonesApr 2, 2016

The Golden State Warriors saw their record-setting home winning streak come to an end at 54 games Friday night, falling to the Boston Celtics by a score of 109-106 at Oracle Arena, per NBA.com/Stats on Twitter.

Now 37-1 at home for the season, Golden State previously hadn't been defeated at Oracle Arena since losing in overtime to the Chicago Bulls on Jan. 27, 2015.

Making the feat even more impressive, the Warriors hadn't lost at home in regulation since Nov. 11, 2014, against the San Antonio Spurs, per GSW Stats on Twitter.

Of course, it all came to an end Friday night, with the Celtics eking out a tight victory behind strong performances from center Jared Sullinger (20 points and 12 rebounds), guard Isaiah Thomas (22 points and six assists) and guard/forward Evan Turner (21 points, five rebounds and five assists).

The Warriors made 20 of their 43 three-point attempts, but they also turned the ball over 22 times, with nine of those charged to star point guard Stephen Curry.

Sitting at 68-8 with six games remaining, Golden State can afford to take one more loss in its quest to break the 1995-96 Chicago Bulls' record of 72 wins in a single season.

However, the remaining schedule includes two games against San Antonio, which explains why ESPN's Basketball Power Index only gives the Warriors a 51 percent chance to break the Bulls' record, per ESPN Stats & Info.

The Spurs, meanwhile, have an ongoing 47-game home winning streak of their own, needing just three more victories at the AT&T Center to become the first team to finish an NBA season without any losses at home.
