LeBron James Passes Oscar Robertson for 11th on NBA's All-Time Scoring List
LeBron James continued his rise up the NBA's all-time scoring list Friday.
The Cleveland Cavaliers superstar surpassed Oscar Robertson to become the 11th-highest scorer in NBA history after a layup with two minutes, 14 seconds remaining in the third quarter of his team's game against the Atlanta Hawks.
The Cavs congratulated their superstar one day after he passed Dominique Wilkins for 12th on the all-time list:
James stepped onto the same court where Wilkins scored the bulk of his 26,668 points needing only 21 to tie the Big O. James had already spent most of the year moving up the scoring ladder, per Dave McMenamin of ESPN.com.
During his climb, James has passed active players Kevin Garnett, Tim Duncan and Paul Pierce to inch toward the top 10.
Next on the list is Hall of Fame big man Hakeem Olajuwon, who scored 26,946 points in his career. James would need an incredible stretch to pass the Dream, though. Including Friday's contest, he would need to average 39.7 points per game over the season's final seven contests to get there.
It's probably safe to say James will have to wait until next year before becoming a top-10 scorer in NBA history. Cavaliers head coach Tyronn Lue could rest James toward the end of the season to prepare for the playoffs, so Robertson might be the last player James jumps in 2015-16.
Nevertheless, to move up seven spots in one season is an incredible run. James will turn 32 years old in December, but he's averaging 25.0 points per game this year. If he continues to score at this pace, he could threaten Kareem Abdul-Jabbar for the top spot by the end of his career.
