Beal Out vs. Hawks
Wednesday, April 13
Wizards play-by-play announcer Steve Buckhantz reported Beal won't play Wednesday against Atlanta.
Beal Has Been Plagued by Injury During NBA Career
Beal has struggled to remain healthy to begin his NBA career. A variety of ailments caused him to miss extended action as a rookie in 2012-13 (missing 26 games) and last season (19). The 22-year-old also missed nine contests during his second season in the Association.
A left shoulder injury caused him to miss time earlier in 2015-16, and he also dealt with a sprained pelvis in early March.
If he continues getting banged up, Beal isn't likely to land a max contract in the summer, which he was hoping to earn through his performance on the court. The Wizards have been eliminated from the playoff picture after the loss to the Detroit Pistons on April 8 and have no incentive to rush Beal back if the injury persists.
Garrett Temple figures to fill in at the 2-guard position for now. Washington may also experiment with different lineups while All-Star point guard John Wall continues to sit as he recovers from a knee injury.
