Philadelphia Eagles' Week 15 Stock Report

Andrew KulpDec 16, 2015

With back-to-back victories and the team in control of its own destiny, there's no question the Philadelphia Eagles' stock is rising this week. Wins over Washington and the New York Giants in Weeks 16 and 17 would guarantee a division championship and the playoff spot that comes with it.

Then again, while there's still plenty to play for this season, recent events may bode even better for the future of this franchise.

In our weekly stock report, we find that a lot of players who are expected to make up the core of this team for years to come are turning in some big performances of late.

Not to count the Eagles out in 2015, but they haven't looked like contenders for much of this season. Put the right pieces around these young players, though, and 2016 certainly might go a lot differently.

Stock Up: Sam Bradford

1 of 5

If it seems like Sam Bradford's stock is on the rise every other week, well, that's because it is constantly on the rise as the sixth-year signal-caller continues to show steady improvement.

The numbers weren't particularly great against Buffalo, completing 23 of 38 passes for 247 yards, one touchdown and one interception. However, several dropped passes hurt his line, including the pick—which also appeared to hit the ground, by the way.

Forget statistics. The reality is Bradford was laser-precise for much of the game.

Bradford's stock may have peaked the day after the game when head coach Chip Kelly admitted to reporters that he wouldn't have traded for the impending free agent if he was only going to be here for one season.

Sounds like a contract extension is in the works this offseason, keeping the quarterback in Eagles green for the foreseeable future.

Stock Up: Zach Ertz

2 of 5

Bradford was starting to gain a rapport with Zach Ertz right up until the quarterback got injured. After going five straight games with at least four receptions and 43 yards, the tight end hauled in just two passes for 12 yards total in two games with Mark Sanchez under center.

Now that Bradford is back under center, he and Ertz have picked up right where they left off.

Last week against the New England Patriots, Ertz finally hauled in his first touchdown catch of the season. Then on Sunday against the Bills, the third-year tight end posted his most productive day of the season with five receptions for 98 yards.

Ertz's 41-yard catch-and-run during which he bowled over a pair of Bills defenders led to what wound up being the game-winning field goal for the

Eagles. Expect to see more of the tight end in pivotal spots such as that, as Bradford really seems to love the big (6'5", 250 lbs), athletic target.

Stock Up: Eric Rowe

3 of 5

Eric Rowe had to wait for his opportunity to get on the field, but since he's taken over, we're beginning to see why the Eagles invested a second-round pick in the defensive back.

In two starts at cornerback, Rowe has been targeted 17 times in coverage, allowing only six completions for a 35.3 completion percentage, 68 yards, 12 yards after the catch and zero touchdowns, according to Pro Football Focus.

That was against four-time Super Bowl champion quarterback Tom Brady and the Patriots. That was against Bills wide receiver Sammy Watkins, one of the most dangerous deep threats in the NFL.

Rowe has very much looked the part out there, and at this point, there's little question he'll be the starting cornerback opposite Byron Maxwell for the Eagles in 2016. That's great news for a secondary that has long sought a big (6'1", 205 lbs), physical, athletic perimeter defender on the outside.

Stock Up: Ed Reynolds

4 of 5

It's been a long journey to the NFL for Ed Reynolds. Selected by the Eagles in the fifth round of the 2014 draft, the 24-year-old safety had to bide his time on the practice squad for the past season-and-a-half.

Most assumed he was another late-round pick that wouldn't pan out.

But injuries finally saw Reynolds promoted to 53-man roster, and before long, he was seeing serious playing time. In Sunday's victory over the Bills, he wound up pulling down the game-clinching interception on a deep pass to Watkins.

Reynolds has by no means been perfect. He and Maxwell were burned earlier in the contest for a 47-yard touchdown to Watkins. He was beaten a few times against the Patriots as well.

However, Reynolds is essentially a rookie, and he's going to take some lumps out there. When the game was on the line against the Bills, he proved he's able to learn from them.

Stock Up: Fletcher Cox

5 of 5

Similarly to Bradford, we could probably say Fletcher Cox's stock is rising on a near-weekly basis. For the second game in a row, the fourth-year defensive end was practically unstoppable, racking up a team-leading eight tackles and a sack in the Eagles' win over the Bills.

Cox's ability is no secret around the leaguethe question is whether fans realize how good he is.

His 6.5 sacks don't do justice to how disruptive he is at the point of attack and in opposing backfields, which is the only reason there's any doubt about whether Cox will receive an invitation to the Pro Bowl next week.

"The problem lies in the fan vote and that's what we have to help Fletch with is getting that fan vote up," said Eagles defensive coordinator Bill Davis. "People look at stats and say, ‘Hey, let me vote on a guy with stats.’ If you played against him, you're going to vote for him. If you coached against him, you're going to vote for him. Now we’ve just got to get the fans out there to vote for him."

Pro Bowl voting is open for one more week. Get out there and make it happen because Cox deserves it.
