Philadelphia 76ers Commit 31 Turnovers in Loss to Indiana Pacers
The Philadelphia 76ers committed 31 turnovers in Wednesday's 112-85 loss to the Indiana Pacers, marking the most turnovers by one team in a regular-season NBA game since the Golden State Warriors also had 31 in a contest during the 2000-01 season, per Sportsnet Stats.
It was a true team effort for Philadelphia, as each of the 11 players that entered the game had at least one turnover, with nine players committing multiple infractions.
The worst offender was rookie point guard T.J. McConnell, who had five turnovers in just 20 minutes, though he did lead the team in points (16) and collected six rebounds.
On the other side of the game, five different Pacers had multiple steals, with star forward Paul George (four) leading the way.
George also had 34 points, eight rebounds and five assists, making 13 of his 24 field-goal attempts and five of his 10 three-point tries.
Going back to 1985-86, there have been 87 instances of a team turning the ball over 30 or more times, but Wednesday marked the first time it has happened since December 2004, per Basketball-Reference.com.
Each of the previous nine 30-turnover games featured exactly 30 turnovers, with the aforementioned Warriors squad the last team to actually reach 31.
The single-game record (since 1985-86) of 40 turnovers was set by the 1988-89 San Antonio Spurs in a 133-96 loss to the Golden State Warriors.
