WWE Hell in a Cell 2015: Biggest Takeaways from Latest PPV Event

Erik BeastonOct 29, 2015

From Roman Reigns' defining victory inside Hell in a Cell to Seth Rollins' successful WWE World Heavyweight Championship defense over The Demon Kane, and Brock Lesnar's defeat of The Undertaker inside the devil's favorite structure to The Wyatt Family's subsequent abduction of The Phenom, this past Sunday's pay-per-view extravaganza left fans buzzing about the state of WWE's product.

Who left with championship gold, and what does that mean going forward? What awaits Bray Wyatt as he feuds with Undertaker for the second time in 2015?

These are hot-button issues that will be addressed over time, but they were not necessarily the biggest takeaways from the October 25 WWE Network broadcast.

No, those instead center around the breakout tag team of the year, a wrestler poised to become the face of the industry by new year and a female performer constantly under scrutiny once again delivering on a big stage.

1. Roman Reigns Is The Deserving Face of WWE's Future

To look at Roman Reigns and his body of work here in 2015 and suggest that he does not deserve the push he is most certainly about to embark on would be ludicrous. Simply put, the Slammy winner for 2014 Superstar of the Year has put together a year of fantastic in-ring performances against a variety of workers.

Whether he was hanging tough with arguably the best wrestler on the planet in Daniel Bryan or brawling in a show-stealing performance with The Big Show, he has demonstrated an ability to deliver the best performances imaginable when the lights are brightest.

He did it again at Hell in a Cell, working a brutal and barbaric match with Bray Wyatt that brought their rivalry to a definitive conclusion.

There will always be a movement among fans to boo and jeer anyone they feel is not an ideal face of the company, whether their criticisms and doubts are grounded in reality or not.

No Superstar has accomplished more while working with guys of drastically different styles than Reigns. Does he have the most dynamic move set? No, but neither have some of the biggest and most adored stars in wrestling history. What he does is leave everything he has in the ring, throwing caution to the wind and launching his body in ways no similar heavyweight ever has before.

There are still elements of his performance that need help, the most obvious being his mic work, but Sunday's performance more then cemented Reigns as a performer absolutely deserving of the opportunity that awaits him.

2. The New Day Is The Blueprint for Getting Talent Over

Kofi Kingston, Xavier Woods and Big E have developed into such extraordinary villains that it is easy to forget that the trio debuted as babyfaces preaching positivity. They were booed out of buildings because fans did not want to sit through another generic babyface act that tried to be overly good, a la John Cena.

Realizing that the act was not working, the company adjusted it and turned the three Superstars heel. Moreover, they let them introduce their own unique charisma to their performances both in the ring and on the microphone, and suddenly, they had a smash hit on their hands.

At Hell in a Cell, Kingston and Big E made their way to the ring while simultaneously cutting a promo in honor of fallen friend Xavier Woods, who was at home recuperating from being superbombed through a table by Bubba Ray Dudley. From the ridiculous unicorn-horn gimmick to the emphasis on the trombone, their microphone work was equal parts obnoxious, ridiculous and hilarious.

It is the personality that all three have been allowed to show that has gotten the team over the extent that it is. More importantly, New Day serves as proof that allowing Superstars to show off more of their own personalities rather than forcing everyone to be uniformed and rehearsed can result in much more entertaining television and creative successes.

3. Nikki Bella Is So Much Better Than She Will Ever Get Credit For Being

To many, Nikki Bella is a model-turned-wrestler whose position in WWE is completely dependent upon her off-screen relationship with John Cena. She has not worked for anything she has received, they will argue, and she is the worst Divas champion of all time.

Those criticisms are completely unfounded, and all one has to do to discredit them is simply watch Raw, SmackDown and pay-per-view.

Simply put, if Bella was relying solely on her relationship with Cena to retain her spot on the card, she would not work nearly as hard to improve and develop into the quality worker that she has. Someone who has it made would not deliver as strong a performance as she did against Charlotte at Hell in a Cell.

Everything from Bella's strikes to her power-based move set has improved over the last year, and that is a direct result of her work ethic and determination to get better. Again, someone who has professional wrestling's biggest star as her significant other would not need to concern themselves with something like development and hard work.

Not only did she deliver a quality performance against Charlotte, she was the superior of the two workers in the ring Sunday night. She held the match together in ways the she never would have been able to in the past and showed great psychology in the process.

Did she flub by grabbing the ropes after reversing Charlotte's figure-four? Possibly, though that could also be explained away as her looking for added leverage.

The fact of the matter is that Nikki Bella has developed into a premiere performer in WWE's Divas division. In many ways, she has been the most valuable star that division has to offer here in 2015. Unfortunately, preconceived notions about who she is, why she has accomplished what she is and her place in history will doom her from ever receiving the credit and admiration she deserves.
