Gennady Golovkin Interests Carl Froch and Chris Eubank Jr, Says Eddie Hearn
Gennady “GGG” Golovkin is the talk of the boxing world right now, and the Kazakh’s dazzling displays have reportedly caught the attention of two British fighters at the opposite ends of their respective careers: Carl Froch and Chris Eubank Jr.
That’s according to Matchroom chief Eddie Hearn, who discussed Golovkin’s recent knockout win over David Lemieux in his column for the Daily Mail. The promoter revealed that Froch, although now officially retired, is a little intrigued about how hard GGG hits and wouldn’t rule out a possible return for the former champion:
"[Froch] had me on the phone and was asking what I thought of Golovkin in his recent fight against David Lemieux. I thought he was excellent, but there is a difference in fighting a very good opponent like Lemieux and an excellent champion like Froch. People ask me if we will ever see it happen.
Froch is retired and that’s all there is to it. But I know that there is a burning curiosity in him about how hard Golovkin punches. He’s wondering if the power is what people say it is. The fact that he is always in such good shape, and that a comeback camp would not be the hell it is for some, means people will wonder.
"

Froch made a career with his warrior-like fighting style. So often he was the underdog going into big fights against quality opponents, but the man from Nottingham would dig deep, producing thrilling bouts for the watching public and beat the odds on many occasions.
His previous two fights were against George Groves, and the final one saw Froch deliver a devastating knockout punch, a shot that suggests the power is still prevalent. Previously, the Cobra has been bullish about whether or not he could get the better of the Kazakh too:
Even so, Golovkin would be a big challenge for him. The Kazakh is not only a thunderous puncher, but a smart fighter who utilised his jab superbly to dismantle Lemieux. It’s a fight GGG would surely love to take on if Froch were to launch a comeback, and it’d be a hugely entertaining spectacle. But for the time being, it’s a fanciful proposition.

Indeed, perhaps it’d be wiser to look ahead to the future, something that Eubank Jr. definitely looks likely to feature in. He was impressive in beating Tony Jeter in his last bout and Eubank Jr. and his father Chris “English” Eubank Sr., are intent on securing a bout against Golovkin further down the line, according to Hearn.
“They mean it when they talk about Gennady Golovkin,” writes Hearn. “Most people would run a mile. Jnr and English genuinely want to keep moving towards that fight.”

There’s still a long way for Eubank Jr. to go yet. His father’s own reputation as a former world champion means that his career has attracted a lot of focus, and there is definitely a spark about him that was evident during the dismantling of Jeter.
Refinements need to be made to his skill set before he goes anywhere near a force of nature like Golovkin, though. Even non-boxing experts such as Huddersfield Town striker James Vaughan can see there is a significant gulf in class between the pair:
Just three fights ago Eubank Jr. was beaten by Billy Joe Saunders in a split decision. He made mistakes he still needs to iron out of his make up to even ponder facing someone like GGG, a process that will take years rather than months.
Froch-Golovkin has the potential to be a major tear-up and at 38 years old, the former four-time super middleweight world champion could well be tempted back for one more lucrative payday. After all, at the moment, Golovkin is a wrecking ball and a boxer who seems happy to take on all comers.
