WWE Hell in a Cell 2015: Full Predictions for Each Champion at Event
WWE Hell in a Cell 2015 will feature all five WWE titles on the line for a second consecutive pay-per-view, a minor feat considering WWE went an entire cycle without contesting all its titles at a single show.
Usually such a card would generate considerable buzz, but WWE's lack of a build for this show has dampened what should be a monumental night. The five title matches have garnered very little enthusiasm among the WWE Universe, with all attention being paid to the evening's main event: Brock Lesnar versus the Undertaker inside the steel structure that lends its name to the show.
Even Roman Reigns versus Bray Wyatt—another non-title match—has received more attention than any of the championship tilts.
It's truly a shame since this pay-per-view could shape up to be highly meaningful for the short-term future of the programming regarding WWE's championships.
Of utmost importance to not only WWE fans but the company as well revolves around the impending hiatus of WWE's top draw, John Cena. And that's where we'll begin.
John Cena vs. TBD (United States Championship)
1 of 5As noted by the Washington Post, John Cena is expected to take an extended break from WWE programming following WWE Hell in a Cell 2015. That leaves the future of his U.S. title up in the air. Will WWE anoint a new champion? Will the Face that Runs the Place hold his title through his break?
Over the past few weeks, Cena's been battling the New Day alongside the Dudley Boyz. That's left Cena without a true feud, which led to WWE booking a U.S. Open Challenge at Hell in a Cell. That decision is nothing but good news: Cena's challenges have been among the best part of WWE's regular programming.
WWE has also done a very good job of not telegraphing who will answer the call. There have been plenty of names over the last few days—Tyler Breeze, Dolph Ziggler and Dean Ambrose among them—but no definitive answer. There is a prevailing theory Cena will drop the title because of his planned leave, but even that's no sure thing.
WWE might have tipped its hand regarding its plans. According to Madison Square Garden's website, Cena is scheduled to defend the United States Championship against Sheamus at a house show on December 26—the same event many reports have pegged as Cena's return to action (h/t Wrestle Zone).
There are some other interesting tidbits that come out of that promo from MSG. Sheamus as John Cena's supposed challenger could mean the Celtic Warrior is set for a program with Cena.
Does that mean Sheamus will not attempt to cash in his Money in the Bank contract between Hell in a Cell and New Year's Eve? Or will Sheamus be tonight's mystery opponent and claim the U.S. title to go alongside the Money in the Bank briefcase?
As always, future cards are subject to change, but it sure sounds like Cena will keep his title. If that's true, fans should expect a kayfabe injury as an explanation for his impending absence from WWE programming.
Prediction: Cena retains over mystery opponent.
Kevin Owens vs. Ryback (WWE Intercontinental Championship)
2 of 5That Madison Square Garden promo also provides a potential glimpse at the future of WWE's Intercontinental Championship picture.
According to the match card, Kevin Owens will defend his belt against Dean Ambrose in New York on December 26. If that's true, Owens will be walking out of WWE Hell in a Cell 2015 with the Intercontinental Championship.
Such a development shouldn't be surprising. Since his arrival on the main roster in May 2015, Owens has been one of the best performers in the company. He has a unique combination of in-ring talent and out-of-the-ring presence. The Sporting News' Connor Casey even wrote he believes Owens to be "the man to save the Intercontinental Championship.”
While his feud with John Cena throughout the summer was a career high, of late, he's been asked to play a similar role to that of Seth Rollins: cowardly heel who does anything to win. The rake of the eyes against Ryback to win the title he currently holds at Night of Champions, as well as his constant retreats in their subsequent meetings, proves this.
It's an interesting contrast to his in-ring style, as he is always on the offensive. Against recent opponents Kalisto and Mark Henry, Owens was attacking and unrelenting. To have such a demeanor during matches but run away when presented with a challenge from Ryback is confusing booking.
Expect that storyline to end with a definitive win against Ryback at Hell in a Cell. Such a decisive victory would allow Owens and the Intercontinental Championship to move on from lackluster bookings, especially if WWE plans to bring the Lunatic Fringe into the mix.
Prediction: Kevin Owens.
Charlotte vs. Nikki Bella (Divas Championship)
3 of 5This is another championship match on the Hell in a Cell card that has suffered from a lack of cohesive storytelling.
On one hand, you have a rematch with one of the up-and-coming Divas on the roster facing off against the woman she claimed the title from at WWE Night of Champions. It's a pretty straightforward angle that not even WWE Creative should be able to screw up.
However, WWE Creative screwed it up. Team B.A.D., especially the supremely talented Sasha Banks, continues to be an afterthought in the Divas Revolution. Natalya is back but caught between a silly, petty jealous feud between Paige and her Team PCB compatriots.
Only Team Bella is a cohesive unit, but none of those three women is compelling as a challenger to Divas champion Charlotte.
In short, the Divas division is a straight-up mess.
Will Paige interfere during the championship match? Will Sasha Banks announce her presence at some point in the evening? Will the Bellas attempt some Twin Magic during the match? Who knows, but it doesn't seem like WWE Creative is ready to take the title off Charlotte yet.
Why? Because it doesn't seem like WWE Creative is ready to take women's wrestling seriously yet. Expect more of the same during and after Hell in a Cell.
That makes all the Divas and WWE fans the losers.
Prediction: Charlotte.
The New Day vs. the Dudley Boyz (Tag Team Championship)
4 of 5Since Night of Champions, the New Day has been the best part of WWE programming. It's not close.
From Xavier Woods and Big E challenging John Cena for the United States Championship on Raw to the team's continual beatdowns of the company's top babyfaces to end shows, the New Day has proved to be the team all others should aspire to be.
This would be the case with or without the Tag Team Championships. Having the group as champions just makes everything so much sweeter.
That's why there's no justification for having the Dudley Boyz win at Hell in a Cell. Sure, having the Dudleys become 10-time champions would be the cherry on the top of WWE Hall of Fame-caliber careers. D-Von and Bubba Ray bring a nostalgia back to the company, one longtime fans yearn for.
But handing the titles to the Dudley Boyz for sheer nostalgia isn't reason enough to cut short the greatness WWE fans are witnessing from the New Day. The Dudleys will get their 10th title, likely at December's TLC pay-per-view. It would be a fitting end to their reintroduction into WWE.
Until then, WWE has to let the best team in the company continue its roll. Denying the New Day would be plain booty.
Prediction: The New Day.
Seth Rollins vs. Kane (World Heavyweight Championship)
5 of 5During most pay-per-views, the WWE World Heavyweight Championship would be the final match, the one thing fans are yearning to see.
At WWE Hell in a Cell 2015, however, the matchup between Seth Rollins and Kane seems like any other midcard macthup.
WWE Creative has, like many of the matches on the event's card, done such a poor job of building to title match it seems like an afterthought. To believe Kane will actually take the title from Rollins is to believe in unicorns and fairy dust.
That's not Kane's fault. He's been the best part of this mini feud, harassing Rollins in recent weeks and working a split-personality storyline to the best of his ability. He's been entertaining and ruthless all in one, something only a true professional can accomplish.
But in the week leading to Hell in a Cell, a time when the company should be doing everything it can to draw interest in this matchup, WWE Creative inexplicably left these two to their own devices. Rollins was humiliated by Shawn Michaels on Raw, while Kane was suspended by the Authority.
That meant the two wrestlers competing for the company's top prize didn't have a chance to capture the attention of the fans. That's poor booking, making this match little more than filler on a card that will likely be headlined by two non-title matches.
Maybe Sheamus will attempt another Money in the Bank contract cash in, but his previous two attempts have been so telegraphed—so botched—that one shouldn't expect anything different if he were to run to the ring.
The WWE Universe should hope for a quick ending, not only to this match but the feud as well. Otherwise, it has the potential to be an unmitigated disaster for the next few months, something Seth Rollins' image as champion will not be able to withstand.
Prediction: Seth Rollins.
