Samoa Joe and the Best WWE Mic Mastery for Week of October 19
Samoa Joe reminded fans that it doesn't take long to effectively express one's murderous intentions.
At the end of Wednesday's NXT (subscription required), Joe issued a concise warning to Tyler Breeze that was the verbal equivalent of brandishing a knife. The promo brimmed with intensity, as The Samoan Submission Machine looked like he would leap through the screen at any moment.
This was more couplet than epic, an omen that was over in just a few lines.

Still, Joe's presence and a focus on his foe made the speech a powerful one. It made his animosity for Breeze more than believable and churned up interest for their upcoming clash. Joe sounded so angry that it was hard not to be concerned for Prince Pretty's health, scripted sport or not.
Last week, Joe and Breeze were among the hopeful warriors colliding in the NXT Championship No. 1 Contender's Battle Royal. Both were among the favorites. Both ended up falling short.

Joe eliminated Breeze. The King of Cuteville responded by yanking Joe off the ring apron rather than simply walking back to the locker room.
And in that instant, a feud was born.
On Wednesday night, Breeze explained his actions in typical heel fashion—with a twisted sense of logic. His cheap shot on the powerhouse and his lack of contrition would have been enough to anger him, but the self-obsessed star also said he'd be happy to "slice off a couple pieces of bacon" off him:
Joe had his chance to respond after a lackluster main event between Rhyno and Baron Corbin.
Pacing in front of sound equipment, his trademark towel hanging around his neck, he shot his fiery eyes toward the camera. He told Breeze, "You are the epitome of a desperate man."
A brief narration summed up the events that have led to this point. Joe then continued, "Your desperation is going to get you hurt."
He seemed to be teasing that he would tell Breeze to stick his selfie stick up his "candy ass" a la The Rock but instead he asked him to get himself gussied up and snap a good photo. Joe then promised a face-altering assault.
He growled, "Next week, when I get my hands on you, you will never look the same again."
Staring at the screen, breathing like a lion after chasing down a gazelle, Joe stormed off. After a blistering performance like that, he had every right to take a bow instead.
As the folks at Daily DDT pointed out, Joe remains one of the top talkers in wrestling:
His peers should take note of how important he made his battle with Breeze feel. He convinced us that this was the climactic fight at the end of this movie, a clash with more than victory on the line, a car crash between the ropes that must not be missed.
Zack Zimmerman of ProWrestling.net is among those who are intrigued. In his review of the show, he wrote, "I'm looking forward to the match."
In the end, that's the ultimate goal of a promo like this. Joe did that with just a handful of lines.
Seeing him fire off such a bull's-eye makes it clear that WWE needs to give him more mic time and more spotlight in general. Joe is no roster-filler or veteran role player; he's a master of his craft.
