Turner to Have Surgery

The Dodgers announced on Tuesday that Turner will be having arthroscopic surgery on Thursday to "clean up loose bodies" in his left knee.     

According to Steve Dilbeck of the Los Angeles Times, Turner has been dealing with a left knee issue for "pretty much the entire season."

It was flaring up during the National League Division Series against the New York Mets, as Dilbeck spoke with Dodgers manager Don Mattingly about Turner after Game 4 of the series.

"He was a little sore yesterday during the game," Mattingly said. "He had some swelling. He was able to play, but as the game went on, he was going to have trouble moving. I expect J.T. to be able to play. I don’t think there’s been a huge difference, a change from (Tuesday) in what he’s able to do."

There was no difference at all actually. Turner was the Dodgers' best player at the plate, going 10-19 with six doubles and four RBI during the series. L.A. fell to the Mets in five games.

The Dodgers stated in their announcement that Turner should be ready for spring training as he looks to continue his emergence as a productive everyday player.

Following up a 2014 season in which he hit .340, Turner recorded career highs during the regular season with 16 home runs and 60 RBI. On a team with a $300 million payroll, it was Turner—who made just $2.5 million last season—who was most valuable to the Dodgers lineup.

Set up for a third year of arbitration, according to Spotrac.com, Turner has set himself up to earn a nice contract from the Dodgers after surgery.
