Tomlin Addresses Pouncey Recovery, Potential 2nd Operation
Tuesday, Oct. 20
Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin is "confident Pouncey can return this year," according to Jeremy Fowler of ESPN. Tomlin also denied Pouncey has undergone a second ankle operation, per Mark Kaboly of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.
On Oct. 15, Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported Pouncey would likely miss the rest of the year after supposedly going under the knife for a second time.
The 26-year-old missed all but one game in 2013 with a torn ACL and MCL.
How Pouncey's Injury Impacts Steelers
The Steelers are already dealing with an injury to star quarterback Ben Roethlisberger and missed running back Le'Veon Bell for the first two games of the season due to a suspension. Explosive wide receiver Martavis Bryant was banned for the first four contests of the year, had to sit out the fifth and just returned to the lineup in Week 6.
For all of the adversity Pittsburgh's offense has faced, the team still boasts a 4-2 record and is right in the thick of the playoff picture. Pouncey's return would be a welcome development, but it appears rather unrealistic to hope for at this point.
