WWE Hell in a Cell 2015: Predicting Most Likely Swerves at Marquee PPV

Aaron BowerOct 15, 2015

After a disappointing few months, you would expect WWE to have a surprise or two up its sleeves at Hell in a Cell to ensure the show goes off with a bang.

With Survivor Series fast approaching on the horizon, WWE needs to pump in some intensity and intrigue at all levels of the card ahead of one of the biggest shows of the year.

Swerves are usually the way to do that, but what can WWE fans expect from a multitude of matches at Hell in a Cell? Will there be any real surprises?

Here's a look at what could happen on the night in terms of shocks.

A Turn on the Pre-Show

Amazingly, WWE has consigned two of its main event stars, Randy Orton and Dean Ambrose, to the pre-show at this year's Hell in a Cell.

That's a stark contrast to last year, when Ambrose was actually fighting Seth Rollins in the main event and, as it turned out, contributed to one of the matches of the night before Bray Wyatt interfered.

This year it's Ambrose and Orton against Luke Harper and Braun Strowman, and since it will take place before the show even begins, you'd expect something dramatic may happen to enact a big push up the card for Ambrose and/or Orton.

Could that be a heel turn? Perhaps. There's always talk of Ambrose going that way, even if it wouldn't be a move that completely satisfies every WWE fan out there.

Surely, Ambrose still has lots to offer as a babyface, and with Orton probably not turning again anytime soon, maybe the swerve will come via an interference.

Chris Jericho stormed off at the end of his, Ambrose and Reigns' match with The Wyatt Family and has barely been seen since, so could he return, take down Ambrose and set up a feud with him heading into Survivor Series.

Paige Sets up a Feud With Charlotte

The antics of Paige have been perhaps one of the most confusing elements of the Divas Revolution thus far.

It seemed good value that she was going to turn heel in spectacular fashion on the Raw after Night of Champions, when she cut a promo on both Charlotte and Becky Lynch. It seemed she'd turned her back on them for good, but what's followed since has been perplexing, to say the least.

Paige's loyalty to Team PCB seems to change on a weekly basis, and Hell in a Cell should be the chance for her to nail her colors to the mast once and for all.

Should Charlotte come through Nikki Bella's challenge unscathed at the pay-per-view, WWE should set Paige on a collision course with the champion by taking her down afterward.

It would perhaps be a wrong move for Paige to literally cost Charlotte the title, as Nikki doesn't feel like the right person to have it at the moment.

The Divas division desperately needs some direction at the moment. Turning Paige could be the catalyst for that to occur.

Dolph Ziggler Turns Heel to Beat John Cena

The one match that isn't locked in yet for Hell in a Cell is United States champion John Cena's defense of the title on pay-per-view.

Given what's happened over the past two weeks on Raw, perhaps his opponent will be Dolph Ziggler. After he beat Dolph this past week on Raw, Cena cut a promo on WWE's YouTube channel in which he paid tribute to The Showoff.

Is this the beginning of a rivalry? Those who watch Total Divas will have seen the previous season close with Ziggler and Nikki Bella, Cena's current partner and Ziggler's ex-girlfriend, talking backstage.

Are all these elements going to come together to produce a feud between Cena and Ziggler? If it does, it could open the possibility for DZ to turn heel at Hell in a Cell and take Cena's U.S. title.

He could do that by cheating to win or even by winning cleanly, but instead of shaking Cena's hand, knocking him down in the middle of the ring and beating him down.

Taking Cena off TV for a couple of weeks (or maybe even longer) would be a surefire way to nail down a heel turn.

And there's a real train of thought to suggest that Dolph's WWE career really needs it right now.
