Becky Lynch Should Have Remained in NXT as WWE Continues to Waste Her

Graham GSM MatthewsOct 13, 2015

Becky Lynch was among NXT's hottest prospects only months ago, but she has since been reduced to an afterthought on the main roster.

WWE's inability to further develop its female characters has been a cause of chatter among fans throughout the so-called "Divas Revolution."

Although the main-roster call-ups of the NXT standouts injected new life into the stagnant division back in July, WWE's booking of the Divas division in recent months has been questionable—to say the least. Instead of focusing on establishing the identities of Charlotte, Sasha Banks and Becky Lynch, the writers have offered up meaningless faction wars that haven't seen anyone get over.

In fact, Banksclearly the most popular woman on the roster at the momenthas earned the audience's respect in spite of how she's been handled since arriving on Raw.

Charlotte captured the Divas Championship within two months of her main-roster debut at Night of Champions, leaving Lynch to be neglected by WWE Creative.

As exciting as it is to see "The Lass Kicker" every Monday and Thursday night, she would have benefited from an extended stay in NXT before being called up to the flagship show.

Lynch had already been working the independent circuit for over a decade before signing a developmental deal with WWE in April 2013. She remained a nameless face in the promotion until the summer of 2014, when she became a regular in NXT's women's division.

For the first few months of her NXT stint, she was primarily utilized as an enhancement talent, losing to the likes of Charlotte and Sasha Banks on a weekly basis. However, by the end of the year, she had turned heel and formed an exciting alliance with Sasha Banks called Team B.A.E.

Over the next year, she honed her craft as a character and evolved into who she is todayunique attire and all.

Building a following for herself at Full Sail University, she became a fan favorite following her breakout performance against Banks at NXT TakeOver: Unstoppable in May.

While it was still relatively early in The Boss' reign as NXT women's champion, Lynch proved on that night she was among the elite in NXT. Had she not been brought up to the main roster as soon as she was, she likely would have won the prestigious prize before long.

Despite making a major impact upon her Raw arrival on the July 19 episode, she hasn't been at the forefront of the "revolution" and has been relegated to the role of a background player.

It's not that she wasn't ready for the prime time, but having three of NXT's finest called up at the same time seemed to be too much, too soon. It's prevented WWE from focusing on each of them as singles acts, and as a result, Lynch has had her talents wasted.

When the newly turned Paige referred to her as the "least relevant" member of Team PCB on Raw, she technically wasn't wrong. Lynch hasn't stood out in a meaningful way because her stablematesand even her opponents at timeshave outshone her.

Lynch can be a permanent fixture in the division for years to come once she embarks on her own path as a singles star, but at the age of 28, she has her whole career ahead of her to reach her full potential as a performer.

With that said, it would have been wise to keep Lynch down in NXT for a bit longerat least through the end of 2015.

Of course, with a main-roster call-up comes an increase in pay grade and exposure, but creatively, Lynch has floundered so far since coming to Raw.

Besides, with a lack of real depth in NXT women's division at the moment, one can only imagine the matches she could have contested with Bayley and Asuka in her chase for the championship.
