Brandon Fields to Saints: Latest Contract Details, Comments and Reaction
The New Orleans Saints are signing former Miami Dolphins punter Brandon Fields as a temporary replacement for ailing Thomas Morstead, according to Fields' agent, Ian Greengross.
Zac Jackson of Pro Football Talk reported Fields was one of four punters who tried out on Tuesday in light of the Saints' immediate need at the position.

Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
Morstead strained his quad in Sunday’s win over the Dallas Cowboys and is expected to miss one or two games, according to Fox Sports' Alex Marvez (h/t Jackson). If that's the case, he will miss his first game since joining the Saints in 2009, according to NOLA.com’s Katherine Terrell.
Fields, a 2007 pick by the Dolphins, failed to make Miami’s 53-man roster after the team opted for Matt Darr just prior to the regular season. In doing so, the Dolphins cut ties with their second-longest-tenured player, according to the Miami Herald’s Adam H. Beasley. Per Beasley, Fields is one of just two punters in history to average 48.8 yards per punt or more in three straight seasons.
Kicker Zach Hocker filled in for Morstead as the emergency punter last Sunday, though Marvez noted (h/t Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk) the Saints will look at additional kickers this week to replace him after Hocker missed a 30-yard field goal in the fourth quarter that would’ve won the game instead of pushing it to overtime.
