WWE NXT Results: Biggest Winners, Losers and Moments from September 30

Erik BeastonOct 1, 2015

With not long to go until TakeOver: Respect on Oct. 7, NXT hit the WWE Network airwaves on Wednesday night with a Dusty Rhodes Classic match featuring the NXT champion, Divas tag team action featuring Dana Brooke and Emma and a main event that saw Tyler Breeze square off with former Ring of Honor star Tommaso Ciampa.

A video package adequately hyped the Sasha Banks-Bayley 30-Minute Iron Man match that will take place at the forthcoming live special. Baron Corbin and Rhyno and Chad Gable and Jason Jordan discussed the semifinals of the ongoing tag team tournament.

It was a solid effort from WWE's developmental brand, even if its next major event feels somewhat underwhelming in comparison to previous cards. Still, with a talented roster that typically rises to the occasion, fans should expect another quality show.

With so much focus put on the final touches for TakeOver, there were certainly definitive winners and losers from this week's broadcast.

Who were they and why?

Let's find out.

Winner: Dana Brooke

The fitness model-turned-Diva found out Wednesday night that humiliating Asuka during the international competitor's introduction to NXT on the September 23 episode has earned her a one-on-one showdown with the newcomer at TakeOver.

If the revelation of a high-profile match was not enough, a tag team victory with partner Emma over Billie Kay and Peyton Royce allowed Dana to showcase her abilities ahead of the TakeOver bout, and she took advantage of the opportunity by scoring the pinfall victory.

Dana is one performer who consistently improves every time she steps foot inside the squared circle. Now, she has the opportunity to face off against one of the most respected female performers in the world in a match in which Asuka will be determined to show the American fans what she is capable of.

If Dana can continue her steady improvement and not allow the moment or opponent to force her into trying things with which she is unfamiliar, TakeOver could be the biggest night of her young career so far.

Loser: Tommaso Ciampa

Former Ring of Honor star Tommaso Ciampa was in need of a strong performance on Wednesday night if he wanted his stint with WWE's developmental brand to continue.

Despite the promise he showed during his days in the independents and in his huge upset during Round 1 of the Dusty Rhodes Classic, Ciampa was disappointing as he squared off against Tyler Breeze.

The match was disjointed, with neither man appearing on the same page as his opponent. The result was a hugely disappointing main event that had the chance to be so much more if they could have just gotten into some sort of rhythm.

They did not, and now there is a very real question as to whether fans in Full Sail University will see Ciampa inside an NXT ring again.

Winner: Johnny Gargano

Whereas Ciampa was disappointing, Johnny Gargano delivered a strong performance against Apollo Crews, hitting all of his offense crisply and wrestling a much stronger, more confident style than his tag team partner.

Gargano looked like a guy who could compete in NXT and not look out of place. He provided Crews with a strong match that allowed both himself and his opponent to look good, and that is the sign of a seasoned veteran who understands the art of wrestling.

Like Ciampa, it remains to be seen whether Gargano will get a contract out of the ordeal, but his prospects are much stronger than Ciampa's after Wednesday's broadcast.
