Roethlisberger Replaces Jones

Sunday, Nov. 15

Backup quarterback Landry Jones started against the Browns but suffered a left ankle injury in the first quarter, which led to Roethlisberger's return to action.

Adam Schefter of ESPN reported Nov. 12 that Roethlisberger was "unlikely" to play, but he noted Big Ben was out of his walking boot and was "progressing ahead of schedule."

On Nov. 8, Chris Mortensen of ESPN reported Roethlisberger would miss one to two weeks, while Schefter added it "sounds" like the quarterback would miss Week 10 and return after the bye week to play against the Seattle Seahawks in Week 12.

Roethlisberger Comments on Injury

Tuesday, Nov. 10

"The [Week 11] bye will come at a good time, but I'm not even going to rule myself out this week," Roethlisberger said during an appearance on 93.7 The Fan (via CBS Pittsburgh). "I'm going to take it one day at a time."

"I can walk on it," Roethlisberger added. "I'm not running around or anything, but the smart thing to do, from what doc has told me and the trainers, is just to kinda keep ice on it and get the swelling out and just kind of rest it, let it heal."

Roethlisberger Once Again Dealing with Injury

Roethlisberger has already missed four games this season after suffering a sprained MCL following a hit from St. Louis Rams safety Mark Barron in Week 3.

The Steelers had to survive with Michael Vick and Jones at quarterback in Roethlisberger's absence, going 2-2, and injuries continue to pile up for the three-time Pro Bowler.

Roethlisberger, 33, had a two-year stretch from 2013 to 2014 without missing a start, but prior to that, he hadn't played a full schedule due to injuries or suspension since 2008.

Roethlisberger is 6'5" and 240 pounds, but with so much wear on the tires, his body is beginning to break down as he gets older. He's still as productive as ever when healthy, but the mounting injuries are a concern for him and the Steelers.

Jones came in under center and led the Steelers to a victory over the Raiders, and he will likely be the man going forward as Roethlisberger recovers.
