Injuries Putting Damper on Thomas' Debut Year in Jacksonville
The 27-year-old tight end represented one of the offseason's biggest signings as he left the Denver Broncos in favor of the Jags. He was supposed to be a big-time receiving threat for young quarterback Blake Bortles, but his season got off to a rough start.
Thomas was forced to undergo finger surgery during the preseason, which cost him the first four games of the regular season. He eventually returned, but he was somewhat behind the eight ball in terms of on-field preparation.
Despite the setbacks, Thomas expressed a great deal of confidence in his game leading up to the season, per Ryan O'Halloran of the Florida Times-Union: "I'm just really excited for this. I feel like I've made some great strides in my career and I'm starting to hit that smooth spot, that zone."
Expectations were massive for Thomas entering 2015 after what he accomplished with the Broncos as he posted consecutive 12-touchdown, Pro Bowl seasons.
Some chalked that up to being part of an explosive offense with Peyton Manning at the helm, but the former Portland State standout set out to prove that he was a special talent in his own right. In Week 6 against Houston, Thomas acquitted himself well playing with Bortles en route to seven receptions on 13 targets for 78 yards and a touchdown.
Jacksonville has been searching for offensive weapons for some time, and while it has some very promising options in wide receivers Allen Robinson and Allen Hurns, Thomas is poised to be the go-to guy when he's healthy.
