WWE SmackDown Live Updates, Results and Highlights From Mexico City

We returned from the final break to see Punk put Zayn in the corner for a knee, but he was unable to hit the bulldog that follows because his knee gave out. Zayn tried to go for a Blue Thunder Bomb, but his wrist wouldn't let him.

He hit it on the second try, but Punk kicked out at two. He hit the exploder suplex to set up for the Helluva Kick, but Punk beat him to the punch with the GTS. He was too slow to make the cover, so Sami kicked out.

Gargano showed up to cheer on Zayn, but he almost ended up costing him the match. Punk got Zayn into the Anaconda Vise, but the ref didn't see the tapout because Candice LeRae had the ref distracted.

Punk took out Gargano with the GTS. Kevin Owens came in and tried to hit Zayn with the title, but he accidentally hit Punk instead. Zayn took out KO with a low blow before hitting the Helluva Kick for the pin and the win.

WINNER: SAMI ZAYN WON THE WWE CHAMPIONSHIP

The Mexico crowd booed as fireworks went off behind Zayn while he celebrated near the stage.

Once Zayn noticed Punk's knee was injured, he started to focus all of his offense in that area. The ref checked to make sure Punk could continue before Sami hit a chop block to take him out on the apron.

Punk tried to fight back, but he knee gave out on him. Punk started going after Zayn's injured wrist and ripped off the protective padding he was wearing.

Sami countered the GTS and locked in a Figure Four.

Ricky Saints apologized to Fenix to brushing off his handshake earlier, but then he attacked Fenix. Back in the arena, Zayn made his way to the ring to challenge Punk for the WWE title.

Punk took control early and sent Zayn out of the ring for a suicide dive right before the show went to a break. The crowd seemed hyped for this match.

We returned to see Truth starting to go on a rampage. He hit the Five Knuckle Shuffle, but he was unable to get Ivar up for the AA at first. He got him up on the second try and hit it, but Erik broke up the pin.

The War Raiders hit Truth with Ragnarok to get the win despite a late comeback attempt from the challengers.

WINNERS: THE WAR RAIDERS

Priest looked like he forgave Truth for losing, but during their post-match moment in the ring, he took out Truth with a clothesline.

He grabbed Truth and hit the South of Heaven to officially end their partnership and turn heel once again.

Erik and Ivar put their AAA tag titles on the line against Damian Priest and R-Truth, with the winners having to defend the belts again on Sunday at TripleMania Night Two.

Ivar took control of Truth quickly before bringing in Erik to continue the beatdown. They kept the former 24/7 champion isolated for a while as they took turns beating on him.

Truth made a desperate tag to a fresh Priest, who came in and started unloading on Ivar. Erik brought his partner out of the ring to recover, so The Archer of Infamy got a running start and jumped off the stairs to take them down.

Chelsea Green had her first title defense this week when she put the WWE title on the line against Nia Jax. Lash Legend and Tiffany Stratton were at ringside for support.

Jax was decked out in USA-themed gear for this one, while Green wore the colors of the Mexican flag. Green came out of the gate hot and went right after Jax, but it didn't take long for the powerhouse to take control and start dominating her injured opponent.

Chelsea hit a quick enziguiri and a missile dropkick to send the challenger out of the ring. Jax yanked her off the apron and sent her flying into the barricade. Jax hit a urinagi and a senton, but it wasn't enough to get the pin.

Nia tried to pull the protective mask off of Green, but it allowed the champion to take her down from the corner. Jax popped her up into a Samoan drop out of nowhere for another two-count.

Tiffy saved Green from an attack by Lash at ringside. Green avoided the Anihilator and the crowd started chanting her name as she climbed to the top rope. She hit the Unprettyher for the pin to retain her title.

WINNER: CHELSEA GREEN

The Mexico crowd welcomed Trick Williams to the ring with chants as he came out to celebrate regaining the United States Championship from Baron Corbin on Sunday.

Williams had some fun with the crowd while talking about football. He compared himself to a popular local player. He brought out Lil Yachty to celebrate with him, but Corbin ended up dragging Yachty out onto the stage.

Williams chased Corbin away before tending to his friend. The Nomad returned with a kendo stick to take out both men and made it clear that their feud is not done yet.

Paige was looking for a little revenge this week when she took on the woman who turned on her at SummerSlam, Nikki Bella.

The Mexico crowd gave Paige a warm welcome, but she wasted no time shaking hands. She rushed to the ring to start fighting her former friend immediately. Cole said this was their first match in 11 years as they took the fight out of the ring.

Paige was very aggressive and had Nikki reeling as she slammed her onto the announce table and kicked her right in the head. This was a completely one-sided fight until Nikki used the ref as a shield so she could take advantage.

Nikki ended up stealing the win by using the ropes for leverage when she stacked up Paige for the pin. This was a strange way to end the match.

WINNER: NIKKI BELLA

Sami Zayn gave an interview backstage saying it has to be him who beats CM Punk for the title so he can get justice.

Johnny Gargano came up and hugged Zayn before saying he is next in line if Sami beats Punk tonight. Back in the arena, Nikki Bella made her way to the ring.

Saints had control through the break and into the next segment. He put Fenix on the top rope and climbed up with him for a superplex, but the champ fought out of it and hit a beautiful hurricanrana that popped the crowd.

Fenix almost lost his balance, but he recovered on the top rope and hit a nice moonsault for a two-count. He hit another moonsault from the middle rope to the floor before rolling the challenger back in.

Saints countered a move into a powerbomb, and he followed up with a Revolution DDT, but it only got him a two-count. Fenix hit a cutter for a near fall as he began to build momentum again.

Fenix got Saints up for the Mexican Muscle Buster to get the win and retain his title.

WINNER: REY FENIX

Fenix offered Saints a handshake, but it was brushed off.

TripleMania might be happening after SmackDown, but that didn't stop Rey Fenix from putting his AAA Cruiserweight Championship on the line against Ricky Saints this week.

They started with Fenix running the ropes to hit a quick hurricanrana. He took control with a series of fast-paced moves as the crowd started to chant. Saints hit one arm drag and posed like he won something, which got a loud boo.

Saints hit a suicide dive into a DDT at ringside before goading the crowd into more jeers with another pose.

After a quick backstage segment with Chelsea Green, Michael Cole talked about 9/11 before a video package aired honoring the victims.

Orton stole Cody Rhodes' line and asked the crowd what they wanted to talk about. He said he wanted to talk about Cody because he finally showed the world who he really is.

He said Cody is not a killer, he is a good man, father and husband, and he even called him a good friend. He said being the Legend Killer has taken part of his soul, and Cody is not like him.

Randy said that if anyone tries to get in his way as he chases his 15th title, he will take them out and not feel bad about it. He warned the world champions that he is coming for them.

SmackDown is officially on the air. The show opened with shots of Mexico City and fans arriving at the arena for the show.

When we went live inside the venue, Randy Orton made his entrance to a crowd that seemed excited to see him.
