Josh Freeman Re-Signs with Dolphins: Latest Contract Details, Comments, Reaction
Just four days after releasing quarterback Josh Freeman, the Miami Dolphins re-signed the former first-round pick Tuesday.
Bleacher Report's Mike Freeman was the first to report the somewhat surprising move. According to Andrew Abramson of the Palm Beach Post, a source reported that the Dolphins' decision to release and re-sign the quarterback had to do with a contract issue. The Dolphins announced the deal later in the day.
The team has not released specifics on the deal.

2025 Draft Picks Ready For Leap 🐸

Jaguars' Hypothetical Alvin Kamara Trade Offer
Despite his return, Freeman faces an uphill climb in making Miami's roster. Starter Ryan Tannehill and backup Matt Moore are seemingly already entrenched. Keeping Freeman in a No. 3 role is possible, but Miami could opt to go with a developmental passer in McLeod Bethel-Thompson instead.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers selected Freeman with the No. 17 overall pick in the 2009 NFL draft, and he appeared to be making progress in 2012, as he threw for 4,065 yards and 27 touchdowns.
The team demoted him after a putrid start in 2013, however, and he has since bounced around with the Minnesota Vikings, New York Giants and Dolphins.
Even so, Mike Freeman believes teams would be wise to roll the dice on the former Kansas State standout's immense talent:
Josh Freeman seemed to have the right mindset when asked about his transition to the Dolphins organization in early July, per Alain Poupart of Dolphins.com:
"My goal is to come here and become the best player I can. Talking with the coaches, they are just all about everyone trying to get better at football, develop as a football player. That's my goal. As far as spots on the depth chart, that's up to the coaches. Obviously, Ryan has had a lot of success. Matt has had a successful career. ... At the same time, you come into it with a beginner's mentality and just work (your) butt off.
"
It has now been almost three years since Freeman was last an effective NFL quarterback, though, and time may be running out for the 27-year-old to prove himself.
Training camp and the preseason essentially act as an open audition for every team in the league, however, which means Freeman could very well play his way into a job even if there isn't room for him in Miami.
