The Buffalo Sabres and president Ted Black "mutually agreed to part ways," according to a press release from the team Monday, per Paul Hamilton of WGR 550 Sports Radio.
Russ Brandon, currently the president of the Buffalo Bills, will also take over as president of the Sabres, pulling double duty for the two franchises.

"This is emotional," Brandon said when talking about taking the position, via the team. "Thinking of my parents today. I'm the definition of regionalization, Syracuse to Rochester to Buffalo."
Terry and Kim Pegula discussed the move in a joint statement:
"Since we purchased the Buffalo Bills last October, we have been highly impressed with the business acumen that Russ has shown with the Bills. Now is an appropriate time to give him additional responsibilities with the Sabres. ... We are grateful to Ted Black for all he has done for the Sabres organization and wish him much success in his future endeavors.
"
Bucky Gleason of the Buffalo News gave insight into Black's departure, saying he "refused to engage with co-workers" and was viewed as "a weak leader, administrator."
Black was a key figure in the Pegulas' acquisition of the Sabres, appointing and leading a group of advisers for the Pegulas and helping to guide the negotiation process in 2010. Previously, he served as the vice president of the Pittsburgh Penguins from 1999-2008 and later was the senior vice president and general manager of FSN Pittsburgh.
