Jonathon Niese Watches Baby Being Born on FaceTime After Pitching vs. Dodgers
What do you do when you need to make a critical start with your team in the MLB playoff hunt but also have a child on the way? If you're New York Mets starting pitcher and possible trade target Jonathon Niese, you try to be in two places at once.
Niese only lasted three innings at Citi Field in Flushing, New York, giving up six earned runs on eight hits in a 7-2 defeat to the Los Angeles Dodgers on Friday. The night wasn't all bad as the 28-year-old lefty was able to see his wife, Leah, give birth to his second child, son Tatum Jeffery, on FaceTime.

As Hardball Talk's D.J. Short noted, it's a wonder how Niese had the mental energy to pitch at all:
According to ESPN's Adam Rubin, Niese quickly boarded a plane after his start to be with his wife in Toledo, Ohio.
"I'm just happy that he's able to get back there to her now," teammate Kevin Plawecki said. "He did a great job given the circumstances today."
MLB.com's Anthony DiComo provided New York's plan with Niese unavailable:
The Mets confirmed the move on Twitter.
Niese's upcoming start almost certainly would've been Thursday against the San Diego Padres. Instead, he'll likely be skipped in the rotation once.
