Arturo Vidal Transfer Agreed by Bayern Munich, Thomas Muller Sale Ruled Out
Bayern Munich have agreed a deal to sign Juventus star Arturo Vidal, but CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has dismissed reports Thomas Muller could be sold to Manchester United.
The club confirmed via their official English Twitter feed they had reached an agreement with both the Serie A champions and the midfielder himself:
Former footballer Jan Aage Fjortoft expanded on Bayern's tweet, adding all that is needed now is for Vidal to pass a medical and sign a contract:
Bayern fans will welcome the news, as Vidal has much to add to their squad. A box-to-box midfielder without equal, the Chilean's marauding runs forward and incisive play saw him score eight goals and register four assists in all competitions last season.
Further, as WhoScored.com shows, the 28-year-old's commitment and work rate in aiding his defence are second to none:
Equally good news is the confirmation that Muller will remain a Bayern player next season. Fjortoft relayed the news on Twitter:
According to Goal.com, Rummenigge spoke to German football magazine Kicker and described reports the 25-year-old could be joining Manchester United as "a flying duck over the ocean," indicating "a €100 million bid from United was a hoax."
That said, according to talkSPORT, the Guardian's Jamie Jackson told the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast show:
"The one Louis van Gaal really wants is Thomas Muller. Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has said he won’t sell another star, after Bastian Schweinsteiger joined United, because it’s a bit difficult politically.
Muller is open to the move though, so you never know in football.
"
Bleacher Report's own Bundesliga expert Clark Whitney explains why Bayern are reluctant to sell the German:
The forward enjoyed a strong campaign last season, netting 21 times and creating a further 13 in all competitions.
Though the Bundesliga champions boast a wealth of attacking and creative talent, Bayern would miss Muller's presence, particularly with Franck Ribery and Arjen Robben now both on the wrong side of 30.
As Rummenigge is so adamant in his stance on Muller, it seems that, for the time being at least, he will remain at the Allianz Arena.
As for Vidal, Bayern have replaced the hole in their midfield left by the exit of Bastian Schweinsteiger. While the Chilean is a different style of player to the German, he will prove to be an excellent acquisition, adding the strength and bite to midfield they otherwise would have lacked.
