Jose Mourinho Blasts Old Rival Iker Casillas' 'Amazing' Porto Salary
Jose Mourinho still hasn't let go of his ongoing feud with legendary goalkeeper Iker Casillas.
Years after leaving Real Madrid after a tenuous run with the club, Mourinho rekindled his row with Casillas now that the Spaniard has since moved on to Porto.
The Portuguese boss' main qualm: the lofty wages Porto are paying Casillas. According to the Daily Mail's Adam Shergold, the club will be paying Casillas £1.7 million per season.
In Mourinho's defence, he didn't just lambast Casillas' salary. He was also critical of the £14 million Porto shelled over to Marseille for Giannelli Imbula and the big fee paid by Manchester City for Raheem Sterling.
Mourinho managed Porto from 2002-2004.
In a lengthy interview with the Guardian's Steve Brenner, the Chelsea boss blasted the high spenders of Europe and took a few jabs at financial fair play:
"I think the market is inflated—I only look at what is happening in my own country. (Portugal) is a country in trouble generally: socially, politically, economically. It's a country in trouble, people are suffering a lot, there have been a lot of cuts, old people have trouble with their pensions, tax is higher, salaries, jobs, everything.
This season Porto pay €20 million for Imbula, they give Casillas an amazing salary, Sporting are paying millions for coaches and players. Football breaks every situation. This season we are saying: "Oh, look at this amount for Sterling." But it will be worse next season. Next season someone will pay £60 million. Football is like this—one season is financial fair play, the next is a way to dribble (past) the financial fair play. It doesn't upset me. ... I cannot stop opponents to make an assault to the banks and spend millions and millions.
"
As noted by LaLigaRR, Mourinho's words toward Casillas were hammered in the Spanish media:
